@shannonhood Other people have different preferences. That shouldn't be depressing, unless you think you're the ideal human being and everyone else should be just like you.

What a depressing view of humanity. I *love* having neighbors; my kids enjoy delivering baked goods to them, and we were blessed with a neighbor in our last house that meticulously mowed and edged our lawn for us anytime we left for an extended summer trip. He was a treasure.

@AbuYahyaCA I'm sure it was very cool in an era where people weren't completely atomized, peeping-in-the-window, Facebook-creeping, cop-calling types

@StewGlobal Electing Trump was a gamble that hasn't paid off. But it's silly to pretend it was done out of spite. The right and the center spent years articulating the problems in the progressive left, but the left doubled down and told the rest of the country their concerns didn't matter.

@just_mindy The government does things the private sector doesn't. That's why it's the government and not the private sector. So of course someone whose job history is mostly government work won't have a skill set tailored for the private sector.

I have no idea what the TVA guy does in those 4 days. Maybe it's something others can't do so he earns that salary. This woman is currently unemployed, which suggests the private sector places little to no value on her existing skill set. If her abilities were in genuine demand, she'd likely be working. The lack of market demand for what she offers is the clearest evidence of her limited economic value
ShadyBoots@AndyKing191

@just_mindy She helped oversee the expenditure of over 20 billion annually, so what should her salary be? The head of TVA gets 1.2 million a year in salary and 5 million a year in bonuses and he only shows up to work about 4 days a month.

@ChrisExpTheNews No, she's starting over. Her industry was put into the wood chipper by Elon Musk. China's the only major player in international development now, and she's probably too moral to switch sides.

She is not starting over she is between work, a thing that happens to tons of people, but she has the privilege of having made a lot of money that was only possible because of public funding that she benefited from at the expense of others who weren't so fortunate to reap it
Billy Binion@billybinion

I didn’t like USAID. But watching people gleefully mock a woman for having to start over at ~60 is bleak. You can disagree with someone’s politics without losing basic empathy. The internet has broken a lot of brains.

I would argue that a fundamentally bad person who tried to overthrow our democratic system and is running the biggest corruption racket in the history of the presidency should be opposed on all counts not just “when appropriate.” So call me a Nicene Creed Never Trumper i guess.
Sean T at RCP@SeanTrende

@charlescwcooke The difference between the Bulwark and the Dispatch I think is this: The Dispatch treats Trump as a bad president who should be opposed when appropriate. The Bulwark treats him as the Satan of a Catholic Baptism, where you're morally bound to reject all his works and promises.

Nonprofits should never receive a penny of taxpayer money in the first place. The entire concept of NGOs was created to sidestep the transparency, oversight, and accountability that would be expected of an actual governmental agency. The working assumption should be that every NGO is a corrupt fraud machine designed to undermine the interests of taxpayers.
Colin Wright@SwipeWright

Nonprofits that receive government funding should also be subject to FOIA requests.

I think if you’re making over a quarter milli a year in a govt funded job and you can’t find a normie/private sector job that pays the same after you leave that govt funded job, then maybe your skill set isn’t actually worth that level of compensation.

A lot of folks give @PeteHegseth grief for being a TV personality who has been on @FoxNews a lot, but in his job, it is a CRITICAL piece of background that makes him so successful. He has cultivated a look (just look at his suit, hair, facial expressions, etc - hell, even the tattoos) that convey confidence and competence over many years in adversarial discussions in front of a camera. You can say what you want about this skill, but it is absolutely critical for leaders who are going to lead from in front of a camera - as the @secwar must do much more frequently than many others do - to convey that competence and capability in a hostile room (as any press conference is).
Buzz Patterson@BuzzPatterson

There honestly has never been a Secretary of War (Defense) in our nation’s history. He gives the perfect answer to a ridiculous media question. Pete is a warrior and this warrior approves! @PeteHegseth

First Lady Melania Trump announced the expansion of the @WhiteHouse honey program with the addition of a newly installed and fully functioning beehive on the South Lawn. Hand-crafted by a local artisan in the image of the White House, the beautiful, new hive will add two new bee colonies to the existing two colonies that already produce the signature White House honey. 🍯🐝

NOW: President Trump reveals the Reflecting Pool renovations will be done in time for July 4th and America 250 celebrations: "It'll stay clean. We even have robots that go in it... they clean it like a swimming pool." "You can have a beautiful pool, and you'll have it for July 4th, long before July 4th, instead of taking three, three and a half years, we're taking a week."
