🚨New #Publication Alert! The National Electron Cryo Microscopy facility at the Bangalore Life Sciences Cluster @BLiSC_India has supported a new study by researchers from @csir_iicb and @AcSIR_India! The team decoded the exact mechanism by which mycobacteria resist macrolide #antibiotics. They found how the protein HflX plays an important role in this resistance, and targeting this mechanism could make #mycobacteria more vulnerable to existing antibiotics! The team studied how HflX & a nucleotide (A2286) are affected by the antibiotic erythromycin in Mycobacterium smegmatis. They found that the conformation of A2286 is altered by erythromycin binding. HflX senses the presence of erythromycin via this conformation and binds more strongly to ribosomes, which likely acts as a first line of defence against the antibiotic. These findings help explain how HflX detects macrolides antibiotics and contributes to the bacteria's resistance. @Taslimarif @DBTIndia @NCBS_Bangalore @DBT_inStem @KrishS_023

@abandopa No we can't. The whole process is stalled now. Vendors say there is no clarity on the exemption, and when they are ordering the chemicals, the sigma site is still showing the enhanced 150% import duty.

Asking all colleagues who use imported laboratory chemicals. Are you able to order any chemical - solvents, buffers, nucleotides, antibodies, enzymes etc.? We are stuck as official price from Sigma and Thermo is with enhanced (150%) import duty.

Bacteria have an astonishing ability to put their life on pause in the face of stress and starvation by entering a state of dormancy. Here, we discover one aspect of this remarkable self-preservation strategy: nature.com/articles/s4158…
