@seagullsafterya @pyjamas_black @ThomasSilken Agree with those saying this is standard. Type of voice I used here discussing rugby on radio in Ireland that would suggest to my inner peasant that maybe this is a complex & superior game ..then I’d watch 10 minutes and nope…still oafs running forwards into each other

@feinmhuinin @lou_lou_lemonn Because they obstructed demolition by spending ( millions likely ?) on legal fees going all the way to Supreme Court. Suspicion has to be they would continue even if ownership was transferred

@Matt198045 @noshiteplease Can’t have been a mortgage without planning - money doesn’t seem to have been an issue given how much they must have paid to their solicitor and whatever barrister(s) they were paying to go all the way to Supreme Court

No Rose, the bill will eventually be paid by you & your entitled Hubby. Quite the pathetic tear jerking attempt across MSM & from fools yesterday, who've not been following this near 20 yr tale of Shenanigans from these two Petulant idiots

@Muinchille @CiaranCuffe 1000% sounds cruel but will be injury in any transport system and the rate on roads in Ireland is not high. Only two areas I would scrutinize - anti social slow progress directly drives risk taking - and at other extreme “boy racing” is not a socially healthy interest

@CiaranCuffe on RTÉ, giving out about SUVs as a menace. Grand, but he blows it; "we don't pay enough attention to road safety": in Ireland, at once one of the most car dependent and safest places to drive in Europe. Scare the mammies enough Ciarán, and they'll buy bigger SUVs.

@Eamonnmoran @simongerman600 @Frances_Coppola There was famine in 1740 that killed even more people by percentage of population , “natural” recovery from this, along with from the large population hits cause by war in 1600s , underpinned by stable staple food supply and relative economic prosperity

@simongerman600 @Frances_Coppola An interesting point no body talks about much is the population explosion in Ireland just before the famine. The population nearly doubled in 50 years. An incredible jump. What caused that? Was it Potatoes? Was there improvements in mortality? I’m Irish and I have no idea.

Ireland’s population chart remains a wild one to look at. The country has still not recovered from the Great Famine (1845-52).

Baffling it took so long to flatten this monstrosity, but the good faith system of planning where those who do get permission are presumed to stick to it also needs to change - plenty homes far larger than they were legally allowed to be independent.ie/irish-news/cou…

@joejoe419723966 @_PeterRyan 1) it’s not a haven 2) that was the basis of the model …what’s changed is the bulwarking of (1) thru IP and mgt combined with combined with the credits fueled post crash tech boom opened eyes of that sector…which is all fine but no way as beneficial IMO as other sectors

@_PeterRyan Forcing said business to create long-lasting jobs for Irish people as a condition of their tax advantages (ie; moving manufacturing & R&D to the extent that they have any) would be a good way to leverage irelands tax haven status. Do they do that?

@_PeterRyan @parella_anthony The issue also is the industry they work in , despite its dependence on physical technology is no more additive to wider economy than , say , finance. And if Ireland had built model largely based on attracting the various fund managers in the IFSc Ireland would be a lot poorer

@john_mcguirk Twice they were refused planning permission to build a house. So they built a house TWICE the size of the original house, again without planning. Their sense of entitlement is bewildering. Not always those with money can do as they wish. Demolish it. Lesson learned.

The family who illegally built it having been deprived of this house, one might think any need for justice has been served. Instead the state is going to demolish a perfectly serviceable family home in the midst of a housing crisis. I would imagine a majority of the public think this insane.

Personally I think building a house without permission is so brazen and egregious it should carry a criminal charge and penalty….ideally custodial…..but maybe I’m getting old and angry… irishtimes.com/crime-law/2026…

@Muinchille Which points to the often unspoken downside of brexit - it completely took the previously active conversation on major EU reform - which Britain drove along with others like IRL and NL, off the table…..

So far as I know, Enda Kenny was the only senior European politician who ever went and asked British people about Brexit. He then correctly predicted that the referendum would pass. In one way, Stubb has it right. In another, he's saying that he still has no idea what happened.
Farrukh@implausibleblog

Finnish President Alexander Stubb, "Brexit was a colossal mistake" "I'm too diplomatic to express exactly what I think about those who promoted Brexit, during the campaign, and those who still think that Brexit is a good thing" "It's not only like shooting yourself in the foot" "It's like amputating your leg without a medical reason for doing it"
