@wolfstrength The real Hyper Trophy was all the meals that were eaten along the way.

On the left is 500 lbs in Fall 2010, my second time ever pulling 500 On the right is 605 lbs in June 2013, my first time ever doing 600 Between the two pictures I trained almost exclusively basic barbell lifts and chin-ups. And as you can see, zero hyper-trophies were achieved.

@EdLatimore Needs better parameters. What is "more difficult"? Length of time to goals? Amount of hours spent training? Amount of suffering for the individual? Better question would be: which of these skills has a larger carryover to the other skill?

Also, here's a way to put this question to of running versus lifting to bed: Let's take an average couch potatoe. 5'11", 200 lbs. Never trained. 30 year old. What do you think would be easier for him to accomplish: A 22 mim 5k or benching bodyweight and squatting 1.5x bodyweight (about comparable, percentile wise)?
Ed Latimore@EdLatimore

I haven't run a marathon, but building cardiovascular capacity is orders of magnitude more difficult than building strength. And I like running more than lifting!

@thebeautyofsaas A type of Dunning Kruger situation. 15 years into training, I prefer to never to talk about my time in the gym to anyone else.

the average gym bro is the perfect example of a spiritually broken individual. spending days trying to improve their looks while never taking a minute to reflect on their situation or the fact that they have nothing else but an identity built around impressing others

@wolfstrength "Don't optimally target any specific muscle..." my brother in christ is ALLERGIC to actual work. THE DEADLIFT TARGETS EVERYTHING 🥲 Tissue, sinew, bone, even your fucking soul. Enough time spent on the internet will make a sane man go mad.

Today we unpack this set of bro dogmas. As usual, the answer lies in having a coherent framework of lifter development instead of viewing training as a set of separate dashboard knobs to turn. Deadlift vs RDL is not either/or but “When and for whom?” Link in next tweet ⬇️

@CoffeeBlackMD @wolfstrength They’re taxing and don’t optimally target any specific muscle. I used to do them for fun when I first started lifting, but prefer RDL’s now.

@asparagoid Projection. You are a homosexual obsessed with your appearance and that is okay. You are also afraid of actual physical effort which is the norm for the first world. Thirdly, the human body is far more resilient than you ability to comprehend. Keep baiting, dork.

Chris Bassitt said the Orioles' starting pitchers had a "come-to-Jesus" talk earlier this week about being "too cute" and not attacking hitters. Shane Baz and Bassitt then went out and delivered their best starts of the season. "I think all of our starters have been pretty poor throughout the year. I thought we kind of had a come-to-Jesus before Shane’s start and just had some talks, hard talks about how we were pitching, our mindset of pitching. And then Shane went out there and did his thing. I thought he was on the attack, and it was just — that's how we want to be we. "I think overall we've been too cute throughout the year and we didn't do well. So, it's just, we have guys bullpen-wise, and obviously starters, that are way too good to be being cute out there."

One of the big disconnects between Starting Strength and almost everyone else (standard physical therapy models, bodybuilding, even the way most powerlifters think about things), is that ~everyone else is doing Histology while SS is doing Systemic Anatomy of the organ system or whole human body. Neither are completely sufficient or correct in and of themselves without reference to the other, but the latter is more important and fundamental to Novices who haven't yet Built Their Base™

@asparagoid This is engagement bait into getting attractive, lean powerlifters to share their physique for free. Just say that you're into lean, muscular dudes. It's not that weird. Or maybe you're closet chubby chaser. Either way, offer solutions to a problem that you perceive or STFU.

Imagine how popular "powerlifting" would have been if they had chosen 3 lifts that actually make you look good The guy who chose squat, deadlift, bench not only made millions of people into grotesque fat freaks with wide hips, but also cursed it to complete commercial failure

Matthew here encapsulates my entire training philosophy succinctly and perfectly in a single tweet. You basically only need this one thing to understand all of training ⬇️

@esmurfer336 @sweenprs @wolfstrength Correct! (My dad sucks. This explains your presence at said location). You'd be stronger if you used a belt on heavy lifts and the strength gained from using a belt would carry over to beltless sets. Your inability to comprehend this is preventing you from being stronger.

Newton’s laws already contained the physics of why a lifting belt enhances abdominal bracing and produces carryover strength even when the belt is off. 350 years later people still make ‘the belt is a crutch that turns off your abs’ posts from the supercomputer in their pocket.

For every height, you’re going to have an ideal weight that looks best on you. For guys, this weight (pounds) should be maintained at 25% body fat or below, meaning you need solid muscle development: 5’6 = 200 5’8 = 230 5’10 = 260 6’0 = 290 6’2 = 320 6’4 = 350

Was hoping to get feedback from @wolfstrength on power clean form and also let @AntiDoc know that he does have to worry about the long head of my triceps anymore. More overhead extension in 2026.
