@BladeoftheS @_Brian_Hunter State Pension has no 'pot ' . No fund. It resembles a ponzi scheme, as the Pension is paid out of current taxes, by the current working generation. UK has demographic bulge of post war babies, like me, on Pension, and a dearth of younger UK born still working.

The UK State Pension is a benefit as classified by the Government, it makes up more than 60% of the cost of benefits.
And because it is a benefit it could be abolished at any time by the Government if they wanted to.
People need to know this, because it's the reality.

Yes, that's correct—apart from the toll roads and bridges I listed (like M6 Toll, Dartford Crossing, etc.), all other UK roads are free at the point of use. They're funded through general taxation, Vehicle Excise Duty, and fuel duties paid by drivers. No direct fees for standard roads.

@StigOfTheDamp @shuntingwest @networkrail Network Rail went to a lot of expense to cut down the trees on a cutting slope near where I live a few years ago, and replace them with crushed rock like at networkrailmediacentre.co.uk/news/gbp-8m-em… . I read at networkrail.co.uk/wp-content/upl… that there is a issue with trees and soil 'pore pressure'.

Dear @networkrail I see a landslip occurred today near Shap. Just a small point; if you keep cutting down trees from alongside tracks (to stop leaves on line & protect overhead power) then you need to replace the roots that were binding the embankments together.

At another time VW and Skoda bonnet badges were stolen.
