It's going to need a lot more than $350 mil to break even. $165 million was the production budget for *California Qualified Expenses* That doesnt include the budget for the producers, directors, actors (excluding extras) writers, composers and supervisors. All in this movie probably cost close to $200 million....offset some by tax credits. Throw in another 100 million for marketing.

@JackPosobiec True however it had only a budget of 135 million. It's opening weekend made 165 million. By the time it's done it run it'll hit 345 million. Which is where this particular movie needs to hit anyways

Just throwing this out there. Its a good idea to wait at least 5 days (I typically wait 7) after introducing a new queen to a hive before opening them up. It's very common for the workers to ball and kill a new queen if you disturb them before they have fully accepted her. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about the Golden West queens. I've been to a couple of lectures given by Randy Oliver and he sounds like he's got his queens dialed in.

Beekeeping is *tough*. Harder than I imagined it would be. My first year I lost both of my hives. My second year I expanded...and lost 2 of 3. I haven't lost one in winter since. 4 straight years of 0% losses (avg 8 hives). I don't intend it as a brag. My son got to see all my failures. Now he sees my successes. I hope he learned something from it.

I am not a particularly good beekeeper yet. I probably make mistakes of which I am not even aware. I've read a lot, but ultimately I am still very unpracticed. That's ok. Your children should see you try and fail things, especially if you show them how to try again.

@ChrisWiest11 What is leading you to believe that >65 support Galrein and <65 support Massie? Is it a gut feeling? You talked to others in line while waiting to vote? You did exit interviews? Genuinely curious bc the media is all over the board with this and I don't know what to believe.

I live in KY-4. I voted this morning in the primary. So did my wife and 17 year old son (who will turn 18 before November). Generally, people voting in this primary under age 65 are supporting Thomas Massie. Generally, people 65 and over are voting for Ed Galrein. The race will come down to which demographic turns out compared to expectations. Higher turnout typically does not favor incumbents. I’m not sure that is true here — higher turnout will depend on which age demographic turns out.

@AnonSuz @OldHollowTree Beekeeping is more difficult than people realize. Most quit within a few years. It's also more expensive than you'd think. But if you get hooked, you'll love it.

I've hesitated to comment because I always hated when internet randos tell me I'm wrong about something I'm trying to describe, but that looks more built out than a queen cup. That looks like a queen cell to me, and the position suggests supercedure. You'll know for sure in a couple of days.

It can indicate a swarm instinct or it could just be them building it out. Since this is a new package with plenty of space and a healthy queen, my best guess is this is just a “play cup”. They build it out as insurance. I’ll keep an eye on it though and see if an egg gets layed in it.

Inspecting frames today and seeing a lot of capped brood. Also found this queen cup. Sometimes they just build those as insurance. This queen seems healthy. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@rossiadam Thank you for posting this. I have 10 hives now and beekeeping has definitely changed my life for the better.

Its like every other hobby. The spending can be minimal or it can be a lot. If you are buying everything: Hive kit: about $200 Bees: about $150 All the other stuff/tools/suits will add up too. Figure about $500 to start with 1 hive. About $800 to start with two. You'll want to inspect between every 1-2 weeks. Maybe half an hour per hive.

@rossiadam What's the startup cost for a colony - or the minimum foe it to be worth it? Do they have to be tended to daily? A late uncle had his wiped out by a bear, twice. But his hives were on a farm he went to daily but didn't live there.

This is one of those dreamy days when the bees are so calm you don’t need a suit or even a smoker. Everyone is just totally chill 🤙

Its looking like this is going to be my best year ever. We're only into the beginning of May and I already have more capped supers than I did at the end of last season. The Apimaye hives continue to outperform.
