Riley Loftus (@Rileyjloftus) is an early-stage investor here @HarpoonVentures and the front lines @BlackFlagVC. There are few people on the planet that see more pitch decks on a monthly basis than Riley. His feedback and advice for how founders can standout BEFORE landing the meeting with a VC is second-to-none. Riley also meets with dozens of founders each month, and his feedback on how to crush your initial VC meeting is world class (and it's not all what you'd think). Before sending your pitch deck to investors, watch this episode. Full Episode: vcsheet.com/fun-raising/ri…

Biology is not magic. But predicting cell behavior in silico can feel close. Grateful for the shoutout, @johncumbers. At @CellularIntelHQ, formerly Somite AI, we’re building a universal foundation model of cell signaling to understand, predict, and ultimately control cellular behavior. Generating time-resolved perturbation data at 1,000x the efficiency of conventional methods is a massive undertaking. Building toward a future where biology is no longer destiny but design, alongside this team, is the thrill of a lifetime. Shoutout to the minds behind the platform: @KleinLabHMS, Olivier Pourquié, @arjunrajlab, @JShendure, Cliff Tabin, @TweetKJBrown, ChangHee Lee, and the Cellular Intelligence team.
John Cumbers@johncumbers

AI didn’t just enter biology. It’s starting to rebuild it from first principles. @MichaBreakstone sold his last company for $575M. Then he went after a harder problem. What if you could model how cells signal, respond, and adapt… before you ever run an experiment? Not static biology. A virtual, dynamic system. That’s the idea behind @CellularIntelHQ | formerly @SomiteAi. A team pulled from @Harvard and @MIT. $62M raised from @khoslaventures and the @ChanZuckerberg. The goal: simulate cell behavior well enough to design drugs upstream of the lab. On May 5th at 8:50 AM, Micha sits down for a fireside chat at @SynBioBeta. Because if this works, the bottleneck in drug discovery doesn’t just shrink. It moves. Get your tickets here: syntheticbiologysummit.com/?utm_source=Li…

I am super excited to share that @Starcloud_ has raised a $170M Series A at a $1.1bn valuation to fuel our development of data centers in space 🚀 The round comes after the successful deployment of our first satellite, Starcould-1, a few months ago, which had the first @NVIDIA H100 on board and was the first to train an LLM in space. The funds will be used to develop our third satellite, which aims to be cost-competitive with Earth-based data centers in terms of AI inference cost. The round was led by @Benchmark and @EQT Ventures, and we are excited to welcome Benchmark GP, @Chetanp Puttagunta, to our board. We are also excited to welcome other new investors, including the world's largest infrastructure fund, @Macquarie Capital, @SevenSevenSix 7️⃣7️⃣6️⃣, Manhattan West, Adjacent, Carya, GSBackers, and Harpoon. We are very grateful for the continued support of existing investors, including @NFX@NebularVC@YCombinator@FUSE_VC@Soma_Capital, 3Capital Partners, Wyld VC, Tiny VC, and Taurus Ventures. Onwards!

We just built our first nuclear reactor, at an impossible speed - 14 days: completed PDSA - 36 days: finished construction - 28 days: built the reactor - 10 days: assembled on site Core goes in after final DOE approval. Speed without sacrificing safety.

We spent $15,000 on billboards targeting one person: the guy controlling all the chemical spend at a saltwater disposal company in Texas. We mapped his commute and bought every billboard between his house and the oil field. When we finally called, he said "I see your billboards everywhere." That landed us our first oil field contract. At the time our entire operation was a $10,000 reactor built from PVC pipes from Home Depot, turning corn sugar into industrial chemicals. People keep trying to throw it away. It still works. That leaking reactor started a multibillion-dollar company. @ycombinator visited our plant in Houston. The original PVC reactor is still on the floor next to the Bioforge.

Sharing one of the coolest photos from @gengalactic last year. We went from clean sheet design to operating a next-generation Hall thruster in a vacuum chamber in 43 days! This is a fully in-house design (not licensed) and among the first commercial thrusters intended for a wide variety of propellants. And we've got several other major wins to share soon, but more on that later. By far the hardest part of this was manufacturing. There are so few machinists that can work with ceramics and magnetics, even in LA. We'll be vertically integrating a lot more of the manufacturing processes moving forward.

Ships are burning in the Strait of Hormuz. There are rumors that the Iranians are laying underwater mines. An American submarine has torpedoed an enemy warship for the first time since the Second World War. Oceans are now battlefields. But can America triumph in this arena? We’re not making enough ships—and the ones we have are out of date. Enter: the ocean-trepreneurs. “For these founders, it’s not just about making America battle ready; it’s about making the U.S. less vulnerable, in an increasingly unstable world,” writes Suzy Weiss from San Francisco, where the great Pacific Ocean meets the West’s best technicians. Somite is now Cellular Intelligence. More than a rebrand, this reflects what our team has been building over the last two years: the first universal virtual cell signaling model, designed to understand, predict, and ultimately control cell behavior. To further mark this step forward, we’re releasing a new white paper that shares our technical progress and maps out what is to come: cellularintelligence.com/science Deeply proud of our team for daring to turn an implausible idea into reality. Congrats to the entire @encord_team. Have made huge progress over the past few years, can’t wait to see where they go from here.
Ulrik Stig Hansen@ulrikstighansen

@encord_team just raised $60M Series C led by Wellington Management. $110M total funding to power AI in the physical world. We started in 2021 at my co-founder's parents' dining table during YC, cold outbound by day, hacking by night. Back then everyone was chasing bigger models. We bet that for teams deploying AI in the real world, the differentiator wouldn't be the model. It would be the data behind it. That thesis is now reality. The industry shifted from 'who has the biggest model' to 'who has the right data.' Performance gains now live in post-training, fine-tuning, and evals, and they all start in the data layer. 300+ of the world's top AI teams use Encord today. The next frontier is physical AI. Autonomous vehicles, robotics, embodied intelligence. These systems can't afford to hallucinate. They don't just need more data, they need multimodal, petabyte-scale infra to bridge raw data to production AI. Physical AI is our fastest-growing segment and where we're going all in. To our customers, to Eric and the Encord team across SF and London: we've come a long way from the SoCal dining table. We’re building the data foundation for AI in the real world. We’re just getting started. @Wellington_Mgmt @ycombinator @crane_vc @brpxcapital @HarpoonVentures @CRV @N47capital @isomercapital @scott_sage @LarsenJensenUSA @tjrylander
