A dangerous trend is unfolding in Indian banking. A district administration issues directions that effectively push bank employees into: ➡️ Full-time banking operations ➡️ PLUS Census duties after office hours, on Saturdays & Sundays ➡️ WITHOUT relieving them from core banking responsibilities And the biggest question is: Where is the regulator? If banks are regulated institutions under RBI supervision, was RBI consulted before such expectations were imposed on banking staff ? Or has RBI now become a silent spectator while bankers are treated as an endlessly stretchable workforce ? An independent regulator is expected to protect systemic stability, operational discipline and institutional boundaries , not remain invisible while administrative overreach impacts banking employees and potentially banking services themselves. And equally disappointing is the silence of so-called “majority unions”. Where are @aiboc_in and @AIBEAofficial ? Why are they mute spectators every time workload, exploitation and work-life imbalance of bankers reaches intolerable levels ? When bankers are: • Working extended hours • Facing staff shortages • Managing relentless pressure • Sacrificing weekends and family life …trade unions should have been the FIRST to raise their voice. Instead, silence has become routine. National duty is respected by every banker. But respect for bankers cannot become optional. Banking services can be outsourced due to staff shortage. But every extra Government duty must be done by bankers only, even after office hours, Saturdays, and Sundays. Regular work + Census work + target pressure. Maybe “bank employee” now means all-purpose Government staff. Bankers are employees, not machines.

A new trend has started these days Go to a bank, write half a story online, accuse “bankers harassed me,” gain followers, collect sympathy, and turn banking staff into national villains. No branch name. No location. No proof. No transaction details. But the judgement is already ready “bankers take commissions.” And the funniest line: “I have 50,000 followers on Twitter, so they gave me cash.” So now banking rules will run on social media influence? Tomorrow someone with 5 lakh followers will demand the vault be opened too? Reality is that branch bankers face abusive behaviour, staff shortages, unrealistic pressure, and public humiliation every single day. Yet the only stories that go viral are the ones where bankers are portrayed as villains. If the issue was genuine, file an official complaint, share branch details, allow CCTV verification, and let an inquiry happen. But posting vague emotional stories and branding the entire banking system as corrupt is nothing but cheap engagement farming. Bankers are human beings too not punching bags.

आज मैं पंजाब नेशनल बैंक में गया था. मैं ₹ 1 लाख का चेक लेकर बैंक काउण्टर पर पहुँचा, एक महिला कर्मचारी थी. उन्होंने कहा 30 हज़ार रुपये से ज़्यादा नहीं मिलेगा. दो दिन बाद यानी सोमवार को आना, मैंने बताया घर में शादी है, जरूरत है. यही बात मैंने मैनेजर को भी बताया, मैनेजर ने कैश देने से इनकार कर दिया. मैं फिर से अपनी बात रख ही रहा था इतने में बैंक में काम करने वाला एक प्राइवेट कर्मचारी मुझसे बेहद सख़्त लहजे में अभद्र तरीके से बात करने लगता है. मैंने सिर्फ़ लाइन में बोला - भाई साहब twitter पर मेरे 50 हज़ार फॉलोअर्स है, अब आप लोग तय कर ले की कैश अभी देंगे या बाद में बुला देंगे. क्योंकि कैश तो देना ही पड़ेगा, मैं भीख मांगने नहीं आया हूँ, मेरी बात सुनने ही बैंक मैनेजर को दिन में तारे दिखने लगे, उन्होंने मेरा चेक लिया, उसे बाद बैंक औपचारिकताओं को पूरा करके तुरंत ₹1 लाख रुपये दे दिया. मेरी तरह और 3-4 लोग बैंक में कैश की लाइन में थे. और सब को जानबूझ परेशान किया जा रहा था क्योंकि बैंक वाले भारी भरकम कैश बड़े व्यापारियों को दे देते है जिसके एवज में उन्हें कमीशन मिल जाता है. एक बात तो तय है कि अगर आप शिक्षित है तो आपका शोषण नहीं हो सकता. बाक़ी @pnbindia को ऐसे मामलों में बैंक कर्मचारियों पर कड़ी कार्यवाही करनी चाहिए.

Dear Banks, Stop pressurizing your employees so much for targets that they drive away the customers. Now I am almost scared of maintaining a healthy balance because someone in the branch will see it and start pushing me to invest in some low return / high commission scheme. Every time I have bought a plan from the bank, the yields have been shitty because client welfare is not their focus, their targets are.

In last one year SBI share has rewarded it's investor by 40 pc while HDFC bank investors have got 13 pc return and ICICI Bank investors got 11 pc return . Where are those fools with lunch hour jokes about SBI . And that too when this last one year has been difficult for investors in india . One year nifty return is 8.82 pc .
