AI will help discover new science, such as cures for diseases, which is perhaps the most important way to increase quality of life long-term. AI will also present new threats to society that we have to address. No company can sufficiently mitigate these on their own; we will need a society-wide response to things like novel bio threats, a massive and fast change to the economy, extremely capable models causing complex emergent effects across society, and more. These are the areas the OpenAI Foundation will initially focus on, and in my opinion are some of the most important ones for us to get right. The Foundation will spend at least $1 billion over the next year. @woj_zaremba, co-founder of OpenAI, will transition to Head of AI Resilience. I believe that shifting how the world thinks about safety to include a Resilience-style approach is critical, and I am extremely grateful to Wojciech for taking on this role. @davidthepurple @autismoofds @CuriosityonX A trip at .2%c would be a 2000 year trip to the closest star system if you ignore acceleration/deceleration time. That is an unrealistic timeframe to undergo interstellar travel. The wall is diffuse hydrogen gas. You would have to bring any apparatus to utilize it with you.

I don't think we will need to slow down at all. From what I can tell, that wall of fire isn't a small amount of space. I'm not thinking warp or even close to C. Odds are we will be lucky if we can maintain 1/10th C or even accelerate to it. I'm thinking we'll be somewhere around .2% of C at best by the time we're ready to ship probes to nearby stars. That would give us roughly/potentially a year of travel through the heliopause, and anywhere from a couple of weeks, to a couple of months in the "wall of fire" the way I understand it, depending on concentration / area. Voyager is doing nicely, but we could accelerate much much faster than Voyager's top speeds and ship probes to nearby stars to take snapshots. Granted, we won't get the photos for at best, -insert lightyears distance + gravitational distortion / lensing effects etc) So if we can top off on the way out of the system, it's basically an inert object for X number of months between check ins when the system powers on to take a few readings, beam them home, and continue traveling, like Voyager does.

@MegatronMighty @CuriosityonX The temperature of the photons from the sun are around 6000 degrees but that is applied to the contact points. These particles are even more diffuse than sunlight.

Harnessing it as an energy source would not work because of the massive energy needed to reach it and not wanting to slow down to interact with it in order to preserve momentum and fuel.
