For those perhaps surprised by a Dublin Court today awarding Gerry Adams €100,000 in damages against the BBC for defamation, there is one more case to come. Next March 2026, our clients, British victims of the IRA’s mainland bombing campaign, will go to trial in London to prove Adam’s responsibility for those terrorist atrocities. A defamation case against the BBC before a jury in a Dublin court is very different to facing the victims of the IRA in the High Court in London, who are seeking truth and accountability for Adams’ alleged leadership role in and responsibility for the Troubles and, specifically, a terrorist mainland bombing campaign that murdered and maimed thousands of innocent civilians.   Although Adams may have won against the BBC today, witness after witness has now come forward to challenge him, and there are more to follow.  The High Court case next year will reveal in court what the victims believe Adams has sought to conceal from history If you would like to support the victims’ action, you can do so at the link below 👇🏻

This is the larger of the two islands. The United Kingdom (UK) is Britain and a country of the island of Ireland (Northern Ireland) together. Ireland is, as we have said, the other island. But Ireland itself is made up of two countries: The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. This odd situation is compounded by a good many Northern Ireland residents who insist on calling themselves British. (We’ll leave the politics of that out of this post…) Both the islands of Ireland and Britain combined are called the British Isles in a geographic sense. But this framing is contested by many Irish residents, who dislike the term British, for exactly the same reason that some Northern Irish folk love it. Following so far? Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland all have individual national soccer teams. In rugby, however, Ireland play as one team. Confused? It gets worse. I’m friends with a Hollywood veteran, a guy who’s traded lines with greats, generated an incredible body of work and earned a shelf full of Emmys. I spent two weeks in Ireland once, staying in a rural area. I was surprised by how consistently picturesque the country is. That thing they say about Ireland being green is ridiculously accurate. Pretty much every town I visited had charm. The people are friendly, and actually seem to like Americans. To be honest, I wasn't expecting a lot before I made the trip. It was a trip my girlfriend wanted to make. But I'm glad I did it, and it changed my perception of the country.
