Young people are not buying new luxury stuff because 1) they don’t have that disposable income (yet) and 2) they recognize that newer stuff isn’t as well-made or crafted vs 2nd hand items from the same brands, which are also cheaper. Even when they do eventually achieve spending power, they might not ever pay full price for luxury, until luxury brands start caring about quality/craftsmanship and value again. Not value as in cheaper prices (which is also required) but moreso value for money. No one wants to pay a premium for goods where corners were cut in manufacturing. There’s enough information out there to the point that many are calling for an end to the charade. Which is also why dupes and counterfeits are becoming more acceptable. Major challenge for the big fashion maisons. Can’t fix this with marketing. It’s about the product.
