Towards stronger regional economic integration! On March 31, 2026, in Kinshasa, Burundi, the DRC, and Tanzania validated the technical studies for the Uvinza–Gitega–Bujumbura–Uvira–Kindu line. This is marking another step toward modern and sustainable connectivity in the Central Corridor. The three countries reaffirmed their commitment to implementing this project for opening landlocked areas and strengthening economic integration within the Central Corridor. This railway corridor represents a strategic lever to boost regional trade and provide a sustainable transport. This major progress reflects strengthened collaboration between the @FPCIRGL and the @ccttfaorg. In line with its Program on Economic Development and Regional Integration, the @FPCIRGL is providing political and legislative support for these structuring infrastructures. The Secretary General of the @FPCIRGL, Amb. @dmwaps, attended in this tripartite meeting in Kinshasa to highlight the commitment @FPCIRGL to ensuring, at the parliamentary level, the removal of legal and policy barriers and the effective implementation of this railway corridor, guaranteeing prosperity in our GLR. @FloryOKANDJU #DRC #Burundi #Tanzania #economicdevelopment #regionalintegration

While on a working mission in Kinshasa, DRC, today I had the honor of paying a courtesy visit to H.E. Amb. Dr. Deo Mwapinga @dmwaps , Secretary General of the Forum of Parliaments of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region @FP_ICGLR under @ICGLR. We held productive discussions on the work of our respective organizations and identified preliminary areas of synergy between @CCTTFA and @ICGLR in promoting regional development particularly as six of the seven Central Corridor member states are also ICGLR members. We emphasized regional cooperation and infrastructure development as key drivers of economic growth in our member countries. We look forward to deepening this collaboration.

Regional economic integration is the cornerstone of genuine interstate cooperation, driving development, restoring stability and fostering lasting peace across our region. The Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency @ccttfaorg is a key mechanism in this effort, opening up land-linked countries to greater participation in international trade. I had a productive exchange with the Executive Secretary of @ccttfaorg, H.E. Flory Okonge, during a courtesy visit to the Secretariat. Looking forward to receiving the first draft MOU from our technical teams. #economic @dmwaps

Private-Public Partnership remain a key driver for regional integration and, consequently the economic driver for development in our GLR. At @FPCIRGL we believe that our forum equally serves as a vital tool for strategic engagement for companies across the region and beyond. Yesterday, in Arusha, I was honoured to be invited and to present before the Minority Interests Companies CEOs and Directors forum on how this can be achieved. The forum was organized by the Treasury Registry Office of Tanzania.

Today I had a good exchange with Mr George Akwah who is the Senior Programme Management and Congo Basin Team Leader in the Secretariat HQ. We identified areas that we can work together especially on sustainable development of natural resources in the Congo Basin through fostering regional dialogue and harmonization of cross-border laws, policies and practices. We agreed that biodiversity knows no borders.

Bayes’ theorem is probably the single most important thing any rational person can learn. So many of our debates and disagreements that we shout about are because we don’t understand Bayes’ theorem or how human rationality often works. Bayes’ theorem is named after the 18th-century Thomas Bayes, and essentially it’s a formula that asks: when you are presented with all of the evidence for something, how much should you believe it? Bayes’ theorem teaches us that our beliefs are not fixed; they are probabilities. Our beliefs change as we weigh new evidence against our assumptions, or our priors. In other words, we all carry certain ideas about how the world works, and new evidence can challenge them. For example, somebody might believe that smoking is safe, that stress causes mouth ulcers, or that human activity is unrelated to climate change. These are their priors, their starting points. They can be formed by our culture, our biases, or even incomplete information. Now imagine a new study comes along that challenges one of your priors. A single study might not carry enough weight to overturn your existing beliefs. But as studies accumulate, eventually the scales may tip. At some point, your prior will become less and less plausible. Bayes’ theorem argues that being rational is not about black and white. It’s not even about true or false. It’s about what is most reasonable based on the best available evidence. But for this to work, we need to be presented with as much high-quality data as possible. Without evidence—without belief-forming data—we are left only with our priors and biases. And those aren’t all that rational.
