@BradStanfieldMD @CharlesMBrenner @johnhemming4mp Has anybody said this trial result is grounds for changing current guidelines? This is bizarre It’s like one side of the conversation (you) is saying stop unethically telling me to prescribe NR to my PAD patients The other side is just saying this trial result isn’t nothing

Is that difference real, given that most of that difference is due to the decline in the placebo group? Especially as many other measures of muscle performance did not improve? And yes Charles, I have patients with PAD. The clinic I work in is a semi-rural, where most patients have a poor socioeconomic status. Diabetes and IHD are rampant, as is PAD. Pushing NR supplements on this patient demographic, who can barely make financial ends meet, based on unconvincing results, is highly unethical

I appreciate your points, but this study is weakly positive at best. NR showed a mere 2% improvement in baseline 6-min walk, while other muscle performance measures remained unchanged. The clinical relevance of such small gains is highly questionable. Let's not overstate the findings. Your comment, "& it showed that resveratrol degraded beneficial effects of NR" is reaching. The differences in the walk test and the groups are small.

@BradStanfieldMD Dr Stanfield I’ve seen you be pretty even handed in the past. But downplaying a 2% gain vs a 3% loss (that’s a total delta 5%) walk distance in just 6 months, doesn’t seem like something to totally disregard. Also seems like you’re overstating the hype here (what hype?).

@bryan_johnson I think you once said you can run successful N=1 trials, to me this supports that and is pretty neat. You had reasons why you tried HGH, and now you’re course correcting based on evidence. To me this says that you’re just willing to risk trying stuff for the benefit of others.

@RaisingNad yes we got human data showing very substantial improvement in skin elasticity as well as scoring of skin appearance (fine lines) topical NR in the NR lab cream and ampoule work really well more on these products soon

@CaltransDist3 @nevadadot @TownofTruckee @CHP_Truckee @NevadaCountyCA Been stopped near Blue Canyon for almost 2.5hrs. The vast majority were driving a sensible speed, although some were following like it was dry pavement. Then a very small minority were passing and going way too fast. So much that I was not surprised at all when this happened.

@bryan_johnson But probability of succeeding in your main 4 areas isn’t linearly related to motivation. Often times a little nudge can push you into the success zone. I take issue with the term “magic pills” but could supplements be a nudge factor that could make the difference for many people?

@mkaeberlein To recap: you think all the good data on NR isn’t enough to justify taking it. But you also think it is enough to justify very long and large scale (aka very expensive) trials? Did people start taking 1g of vitamin C per day before multi-year trials published at that dose?

Maybe a good trial on NR or NMN will be published in the next month, year, or decade showing impressive results. If so, I'll adjust my position. Long term safety will take awhile. Probably very low risk, but you are likely perturbing a central metabolic cofactor, so who knows.

Don't think so. Just facts. Nicotinamide riboside heavily marketed to consumers for a decade without any well-powered, medium- or long-term clinical trials to support claims being made. Less data on NMN. Assumed safe (GRAS) but not really known. Most people don't know that.
Timer@igv

@mkaeberlein @CharlesMBrenner Aren’t you misrepresenting the state and rate of NR research when you use first marketing date as your point of reference? 82% of articles on PubMed for the last 10yrs, published in the last 5yrs. Seems you’re trying to paint it like all should be known by now but it’s early days

@CharlesMBrenner Sure, I get that. But NR has been marketed to consumers for a decade. I was just wondering if any well-powered, longer-term trials had been done yet

human Niagen RCTs: anti-inflammatory in men, improved body composition in women, increased cerebral blood flow in Parkinson's; nearly positive signal in lowering blood pressure & decreasing fatty liver. combo RCT w other supplements: accelerated time to recovery from COVID
Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D.@hubermanlab

@CharlesMBrenner My understanding (after speaking w/vendors is that NMN sales will not be halted due to a counter measure), and it will likely follow the path that NAC did. I do want to compare NR vs NMN. Is there a list of NR’s research supported effects someplace? Thank you!

@DrKeithRoach I’m sincere when I say I mean this respectfully. But “nope” is so reductive that I’m unsure if it’s worth replying. I don’t know if you are thinking deeply about this. Are you aware that there are major issues with the way that paper is being portrayed? scienceofnad.com/post/does-nr-c…

The FDA has just released a statement banning NMN supplement sales. It seems as though a company called Metro International Biotech (co-founded by Dr David Sinclair) lobbied for NMN to be banned, so they can sell their proprietary blend of NMN called MIB-626

@NaturalShrimp Don’t be afraid to be bold and coin a new term. Beyond Meat did this. NaturalShrimp - USA Eco Grown/Farmed. NS - Radically Grown. Ultimate Eco NS. NS - Tank to Table. NS - Evolved Choice. NS - Eco Choice. Choice has a nice double meaning when paired with the right word.

@NaturalShrimp Is NS + 2 words the limit? If so, every single word needs to inspire ppl to ask what is unique about this product? IMO harvest inspires nothing and select merely tries to reinforce quality. Don’t you want people to understand they are saving the oceans by buying Natural Shrimp?

@CharlesMBrenner It’s often better to ask people questions you already know the answers to, than ones you don’t. Use this trick to find an honest mechanic. But best case scenario is when you get an answer that’s better than the one you thought you already had: you upgrade your view of the word.
