I'm watching SNL from the beginning, and while it's amazing seeing the show from 1975, it's also depressing that about 70% of the time, when someone interesting pops up on the show, and I go look them up, they died some time back :( I keep having to mourn cool people I just met.

I think I will give up. I have made a bunch of very interesting things over the last 6 months. But I cannot get any attention for them and don’t know how. My son is 4 and he deserves my time. I'm going to go and get a normal job. My time making things is over I think.

@archer_rs I had similar, not that many people in the chain, just 3 of us, the seller at the bottom suddenly asked for an extra £10k at last minute, myself and the chap in the middle had already booked movers etc. We both threatened to walk and seller backed down, but I was scared!

My cousin in the UK is moving house tomorrow, six people in the "chain". One of them this morning just sent an email saying he's £20,000 short and asking everyone else to jointly make up the difference or the entire deal folds.

@codevsdev Books. BIG books. A bit of trial and error. And help from the more experienced programmer sat next to you at the office.

@lizaboth And if you do find an article about female fans of a male sports league, it will be horribly patronising and suggest that they are just there to ogle the men. There was a particularly egregious example of this recently written about British female ice hockey fans.

For my grad school program, I've been developing a business concept with female sports fans in mind. That is, women who are fans of sports regardless of league and gender of the people playing the sport. My biggest pet peeve is that when I'm trying to research, every article -

The backrooms being something that takes from existing things, doesn't understand any of it, then feeds itself with the same thing over and over until it all starts to become unstable with that yellow tint? You couldn't make a better analogy for ai if you wanted to 😭

@didem5654 British airways used to give you a little pack with an eye mask, a little toothbrush and toothpaste, and flight socks, nice loose ones, designed to be worn instead of shoes because of swelling feet. It's a perfectly normal thing to do on an intercontinental flight.

@turingtested743 ... because they were trying to portray him as a sympathetic to start with, while also peppering in little hints to the fact he's not very nice. And maybe they went a bit too heavy on the former. I enjoyed the film though, felt a bit like a good, student movie (with a decent..

i watched the backrooms movie with my parents that dont know anything about the whole internet thing, my mom asked "is this about AI generated stuff being bad", and i quite liked that interpretation

@turingtested743 I assumed that the whole "if you describe a dog to something that doesn't know what a dog is and ask it to draw a dog" thing , the "off" or backwards text and the look of some of the still lifes, was specifically referencing how AI image generation works

Oof, I could have done with some of that icy dragon breath cooling me down while I was painting this one! Hottest May weekend in the UK in 82 years, apparently. Soooo sweaty!! :D Anyway - here you go - painted for a young dragon-obsessed lad's bedroom wall:

@typesfaster Well if 900k for the last decade is correct, 2025's 71k total was significantly below the 10 year average, so it looks like we are on the mend, eh? :)

In London for a bit It’s hot as hell and nowhere has AC. I just sat through The Devil Wears Prada in 95 degree indoor heat. The internet barely works (wifi and cell network both equally bad) You can’t safely walk around with a watch and half the city has had their phone snatched. Why do they live like this?

@typesfaster Also, according to the Met, 71k phones were reported stolen in London in 2025. That's a bit down on your 900k! People do also quite often tend to report their phones as stolen if they damage them, so they can claim on the insurance Anyway, you believe what you want...

@implausible17 900k people a year get their phone snatched and reported in London, that's 20% of the population per decade if we assume half of people don't bother to report it.
