MBJ projected as 5th to land to LA Clippers. I think this recent change of news after weeks of having Wagler slotted to 5th is posturing by LA so they can get trade value to trade down a spot where they ultimately know their guy will be there at 6 or 7. They're making Nets sweat

As far as the draft goes, the Clippers are keeping everything close to the vest about who’s sitting at the top of their board. One thing I keep hearing, though, is that Steve Ballmer has been heavily involved throughout the process. Everybody in the building seems locked in and treating this draft as seriously as anything they’ve done in years. Doesn’t look like a franchise that’s ready to move the pick, they’re approaching this like a real opportunity to add a major piece.

I’m still hesitant with the 5th pick but JB is a top 15 player in the league who is 29 yrs old in his prime and just avg 29 ppg 7 reb and 5 assists. I don’t think we can really go wrong here 🤷🤷

A potential three-team Giannis Antetokounmpo framework involving the Bucks, Celtics and Clippers: Boston: Giannis, Bobby Portis, Brook Lopez Milwaukee: No. 5, No. 27, Hugo Gonzalez, Isaiah Jackson, Derrick Jones Jr., Bogdan Bogdanovic, Future 1st (via Boston) LA: Jaylen Brown

@khrisody I totally agree with you. I've been calling for soft rebuilding since 2023. I think 'trust the precess' is a natural law in NBA. I Still can't believe we now have talents and picks. I'm just as scared as you are that we will miss this opportunity for fake competence again.

They signed a group of vets because it was the only realistic short-term option available to build a competitive team. People keep acting like the Clippers chose between a young contender and an aging roster. They didn't. They had no control of their draft picks, no cap space, and an owner who wasn't interested in bottoming out. The veteran route was the only path to remain competitive while rebuilding their asset base. Now that they've finally started getting younger, recovered draft capital, and created some flexibility, some fans want to throw it all away for another massive contract and restart the same cycle. We literally just got out of that situation. Why the hell would you immediately run it back?
jiaroger@jiarogerc

@khrisody The FO of our team lacks some sharp perception of the core components to be a real contender in this era, which explains why they signed a group of vets last year's off-season.

The problem I have isn't that some hypothetical Jaylen Brown trade got linked to us. I've said for a while that a massive salary trade is probably unlikely. My issue is with the fans pushing for moves like this as if it's still 2019. The league is getting younger. The best teams are building around young cores and continuously adding cheap, productive role players through the draft. That's how you create sustainable contenders under the new CBA. Meanwhile, some of y'all act like adding Jaylen Brown to a roster built around 35-year-old Kawhi and a maxed-out Garland is some automatic championship formula. At some point you have to stop chasing the biggest name available and start building a roster that can actually compete for the next 5-10 years, not just the next 5 months.

5 and Garland for Brown, would put an end to my Clipper fandom for the rest of the decade. It just accomplishes nothing
NBACentral@TheDunkCentral

The Clippers are emerging as a potential third team for Jaylen Brown in Giannis Antetokounmpo trade talks, with a deal that would send the No. 5 pick to Milwaukee, per @GrantAfseth “A potential multi-team trade framework making the rounds in league circles would bring Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Boston Celtics and send Jaylen Brown to the Los Angeles Clippers, with the Clippers’ No. 5 overall pick going to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of the return, sources told Dallas Hoops Journal.” (Via dallashoopsjournal.com/p/jaylen-brown…)

Keaton Wagler's going to be such an interesting case study to follow as an offensive player. Zero dunks has been the headline, but for a lead guard, he laps his peers in FTr and OREB%. Could find himself in a weird middle-ground where he's not enough of a playmaker to be a lead guard, but a bad defender on the wing. But has so much impact as a shot-maker and possession-maximizer on offense that it doesn't really matter, and you just have to put him out there. Don't think it all depends on the shooting being elite, but still think the shooting could be elite. Would certainly help. Lottery guy, as I see it, but 100% tentative on that. Can't think conventionally about unconventional guys.

@APH00PS @krystenpeek I watched a mock draft by @AdamFinkelstein about a week ago. He said Wagler did not do as well as the others in workouts and teams believe that he should do better in hoop and interview.

There has been “no smoke” coming out of Keaton Wagler’s pre-draft workouts, per @krystenpeek. “That’s either one of two things: He’s killing it and he has a promise and everyone is tight-lipped or people are thinking ‘Okay, he rose way too quick, way too fast.’” (via podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/no-…)
