Digital Trends down 97%, The Verge down 85%, almost every peak lines up with exactly when AI search went mainstream in early 2024. the interesting part for anyone thinking about media is that these publications are losing direct traffic but they're still being cited inside AI answers. their influence on what AI recommends hasn't collapsed the way their click traffic has. the value of being a trusted source shifted from driving readers to a site to shaping what AI tells people instead. that's a completely different business model and most of these publications haven't figured out they're already operating inside it.

It appears that a Polymarket account called "Magamyman" made $515,000 in a single day betting on last night's U.S. strike on Iran, with the first trade placed 71 minutes before the news broke publicly. When this person bought in, the market had this at a 17% probability. They turned roughly $87,000 into over half a million dollars overnight. Reminder that Donald Trump Jr. sits on Polymarket's advisory board and his firm invested double-digit millions into the platform last year. The DOJ and CFTC both had active investigations into Polymarket that were dropped after Trump took office. Prediction markets cannot be a vehicle for profiting off advance knowledge of military action. We need answers, transparency, and oversight.

@conorsen I think the scale of gerrymandering in VA is the issue (% of vote vs # of reps). Texas may have started it, but they didn’t go to the same extreme as Virginia. If Rs in Florida and GA go to the same extreme, there will be howls from the media and the left.

I think Virginia set Republicans off in a way other states haven’t because the knew the nature of MA/MD/IL/NY would lead to imbalanced maps but Virginia is the first time Dems have been max aggressive in a nominally-competitive state the way Republicans gerrymandered Wisconsin.
