Hello again. We’re currently in Clemson, South Carolina. I’ve decided to come back here to document the final part of our road trip. The main reason I deactivated my account two weeks ago was that things became increasingly toxic. For some people, it’s unfortunately unfathomable that a good story can exist without some kind of hidden agenda behind it. There was even a Reddit group going through my entire account trying to find anything they could use to reveal my identity. I know this was only a small percentage of people, but after a while it became exhausting. During the last two weeks, I received so many kind messages on Instagram, and they really made me realize how many people genuinely enjoyed following the trip. Some people even told me that their grandparents regularly ask them, “What are the Germans up to today?” I think that’s really cool. I decided to continue because I realized that the overwhelming majority of people loved following along. A small group of very loud people shouldn’t be able to ruin something that brought so many others joy. I also want to clear something up, as people who follow me on Instagram already know. I’ve been to the United States before. This is not my first visit, and I’ve never claimed that it was. The last time I was here was in January 2022, when I visited New York and Philadelphia. A lot of people shared my Raising Cane’s post from November 2025 to make it look like I was secretly American. That post wasn’t from the United States, it was from my trip to Saudi Arabia. This is my first time back in the U.S. in more than four years, and apart from Boston, I’d never visited any of the places we’ve been to on this trip before. That’s probably why many people assumed it was our first time in America, because for all of these places, it actually was. And let me tell you, Ohio and Alabama are very different from New York City or Los Angeles. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks for reading.

If you are only making $30-50 an hour after five years invested thats a horrible deal. Nobody is going to do that.

@WolfBronsky I’m a Millennial. I grew up working a trade. I guarantee you can find newly licensed plumbers making that in many parts of the country, especially if you include overtime.

More warmed over Boomer trades slop. I don't know a single plumber or electrician outside of a few very specialized sub-sets that make $50 an hour 5 years in and I know a lot of them. If the trades interest you, get an engineering degree at a decent state school.

@BenOgorek @dehenau_ A lowly surveyor can make $50/hr after 5 years of learning the trade. You can learn how to install cabinets and make that after several years. You can go work for a plumber or electrician and make that after 5 years.

@HydroFoundry @dehenau_ Just curious, what skill are you thinking of that would get you $50/hr guaranteed without an investment? My best guess would be a 2-3 year nursing program at a community college, but even there, you need over $10K for the education itself. Then you'd start off in mid 30s/hr

I know several men who at age 40, have dropped out of the work force. And.. at first, you would say “wow thats stupid” But, think about it. Without a college degree, you just spend 20 years bouncing from 15$ an hour job to 18$ an hour jobs You can’t pay bills with that 🤷‍♂️

@GuyTalksFinance You can make new friends. You will see your family in the summer and holidays. Don’t move for affordable housing. Move for a career advancement opportunity if you are not happy with your current situation.

Moving to the middle of nowhere away from all of your friends and family is not a solution to the unaffordable housing market.

Contact on a corner that happens nearly every corner kick gets overturned by VAR. A cable literally hits the ball and it’s play on, no review. The inconsistency in how VAR is applied makes it impossible to take this sport seriously at times.

This is obviously a daughter goofing around with her dad, but if it adds any additional context, Willow Johnson is a professional volleyball player and an athlete in her own right. She's also 6'3". Love the banter between the two. Great dad/daughter moment and best thing you’ll see today.
