🏴 The King has met volunteers and veterans at The Gordon Highlanders Museum, including 99-year-old D-Day veteran Jim Glennie, whose portrait by Carl Randall is displayed at the museum, courtesy of Royal Collection Trust.
His Majesty saw the kilt of Captain Alexander Manson, who was wounded in the 1916 Battle of the Somme. 🧐 Remarkably, the kilt still bears traces of mud from the battlefield.
The museum honors the history of The Gordon Highlanders, a line infantry regiment established in 1784. As The Duke of Rothesay, The King was appointed Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment in 1978 and served until its amalgamation with the Queen’s Own Highlanders in 1994.

It’s been a moment. Back in RAF uniform today for the first time in 17-years. Joining the leadership team from 2 Flying Training School as we visit @RAFConingsby as part of a development away day. Looking forward to seeing @RAFBBMF and other parts of the unit. It does feel a bit weird after all this time though. Have you ever had that new boy at school feeling as an adult ? #military#volunteer#pilot#avgeek
How’s the VR going @rickygervais? I got myself a new head strap recently which is a lot more comfortable and you can attach a 3 hour battery to the back of it to give you more run time. The battery just snaps on and off magnetically.
