@PMurany @WilliamShatner He said time is money. Well he’s spending more time and money than he would on a yearly basis because he drives a gas car. It’s quite simple to understand.

And for the #teslarites who don’t understand 500 miles. Time is money. How long does it take to pump a tank of gas? 4-5 mins versus 30. Early last week I went up to the Yosemite area (about 300 miles.) I got up there, did my thing and got gas (5 mins) and drove back. With a Tesla. It would be drive up (maybe on one charge) charge up 20-30 mins, do my thing. Drive back, stop along the way to recharge (again probably another 20 mins…) That’s too long. 500 would be one recharge so it’s 10 mins gas versus 29-30 mins which I would consider.🤷🏼

@JCChristopher Curious, what was the approach speed and what speed did it take the curve?

I went to the exact same location of the Cybertruck accident shown in the Fox News video. This is the US-69/59 Eastex Freeway northbound HOV lane at the Y-split near the Eastex Park & Ride exit (approaching from downtown Houston toward Humble). In the Fox News video, the vehicle failed to follow the right curve, going straight into the barrier. Well, I tested it twice today with Tesla FSD engaged the entire time with zero human intervention. And unless you think I am a hologram speaking to you from another dimension now, it worked out really well. Here is the video of me taking the exact same curve twice, with Tesla FSD v14.2.2.5.

@YTJustGetATesla To take the curve it would probably only have to slow to 25 mph so not as hard as you imagine.

@mark_prati It can brake that hard. Now ask if it should. On that elevated viaduct. On the immediate approach to a hard right turn.

So, to summarise the Texas Cybertruck crash: FSD is flawless and never makes mistakes and The woman should have taken over it’s her fault But if it was flawless and not to blame there would be no need for her to take over and slam the brakes on…

@ChadMoran No misunderstanding, Tesla has confirmed that FSD was disengaged 4 seconds before impact. The question is why? And why were brakes not applied.

Why do people keep misunderstanding the situation? It was 4s FROM THE WALL. It was 2s FROM THE TURN. 2s, 170 ft. That's how much time/distance it had to slow down to 20 MPH to make the turn. That would have required 21 fps2 of stopping power, double the standard for ramp/intersection planning and almost maximum braking pressure. So no, it wasn't 4s, it was 2.

I normally don't bother armchair quarterbacking these situations. But watching the Tesla Stans come into the comments is funny. Elon said Autopilot (FSD?) was disengaged 4s before the impact which if you watch the video looks like it was going way too fast at that point. Am I missing something?

I drive at level 5 without laser eyes and less than perfect eyesight using my brain to make sensible decisions by analyzing only visual and sound input data. L5 is an AI problem to be solved, additional sensors are not required. Attempting to have an autonomous vehicle operate in conditions a skilled human driver would not drive in is fundamentally an unsafe and impractical goal. The sensible approach is for autonomous vehicles to understand unsafe conditions and pull over just like a human driver would. Current autonomous systems already have a much faster reaction time than humans to edge case scenarios such as an animal or child entering its path. There will always be collisions as the laws of physics dictate outcomes. Entering the path 20ft in front of a vehicle travelling at 30 mph, there is no physical way to prevent that collision. The goal of autonomous vehicles should be to reduce the death and injury rate by 80% or more, improve transportation economics by 50% or more, lessening the environmental impact and eliminating emissions of pollutants detrimental to human health. The goals mentioned are extremely disruptive to a significant number of large industries drives the bombardment and amplified negative media of anything to do with EVs and autonomy. Even things would seem as beneficial to humans such as less injury and death have economic impact. Healthcare, emergency services, towing and collision, insurance even 40,000 less deaths for funeral homes. These are a drop in the bucket as to what it will disrupt over the next 10 years. These push back is strong from those wanting to preserve their economic position over better outcomes for humanity and one of the biggest targets is Tesla.

Facts align across sources: Tesla FSD (Supervised) is SAE Level 2—requires full driver attention & intervention readiness. Waymo is SAE Level 4—fully driverless but only in approved geofenced areas. Classifications & safety metrics differ by design; no bias, just standards as of March 2026.

Tesla's FSD: 5.3 million miles between accidents. US driving average: 660,000.  That's 9x safer. And it's only getting better.

Any response other than “we told everyone FSD needs to be supervised at all times, and the driver here clearly did not” creates an opportunity for the other side to exploit the “FSD is not to blame at all” argument. Clearly, FSD put the inattentive driver in a difficult situation here. No reason to defend this outdated software. This is bad PR by Tesla and all the fans.

@FSDinTN @thejefflutz @TankyBashem @WilliamShatner In those situations I would just plug in to a 120V outlet, add a few miles at every stop. I have a 50 foot extension cord in the frunk just incase I need it.

@thejefflutz @TankyBashem @WilliamShatner The issue for me is living in TN makes if difficult if I have to go to work, then to see my family, then home. There are no chargers available other than one slower $1 per minute charger that gets about 100 miles per hour. That is where the range matters. Not road trips.

When Tesla’s get to 500 miles per charge; I’ll think about one. BTW there’s an app that allows Waze to work. 🙄 #thinkIdontknow? 🥱😑

@esjesjesj Cybertruck braking time 50 mph to 0 is 2.7 seconds. 4 seconds more than enough time. People say it takes humans another few seconds reaction time. This is not relevant as it occurred prior to AP being disengaged leaving a full 4 seconds.

Btw what happens is drivers see that autopilot is about to cause a crash and disengage it to try to stop the crash and it’s too late. Then tesla gets to say that autopilot wasn’t engaged
