@plibt1 Closing rank with the Euro idiots in today's summit. Something to do with paying back the Russians for helping Iran. I'm going to read about the deal now, is it the offer to help Ukraine to get nuclear weapons?

@plibt1 I saw your reply to Mark Ames, I was listening to Radio War Nerd today, and I thought, yh, I would concur, then I realised we both follow each other but I haven't had any of your stuff in my tl. So a bit catching up. We're in June right? Any updating of thoughts?

Tesla's valuation is based on monopolizing all fleet cars on earth with robotaxis. spacex's valuation is based on fucking outer space data centers and martian colonization. You might as well give money to a tiktok energy healer

Guy who’s disappointed by the Iran peace deal because he was hoping for a U.S. unconditional surrender instead of a strategic surrender.

We have the text, the deal is absolutely terrible, there's no getting around it. The text gives Iranians huge, immediate financial benefits and protection for Hezbollah in exchange for opening the Strait - and nothing else. President Trump should renege.

If so, and that’s a big if, it’s payback for Russia helping Iran; Which was payback for Trump approving Ukraine deep strikes into Russia/ on Ru oil; which was payback for Putin not giving Trump his ceasefire, etc. But Trump also vengeful at Europe for not helping his Iran war.
Alex Wickham@alexwickham

Trump’s shift back closer toward the European position on Ukraine looks to be confirmed in this G7 statement overnight - the US has signed up to language backing more military support for Ukraine and stronger sanctions on Russia - that’s a significant win for Starmer/Macron/Merz

@opinonhaver We have treated crime the same way through all of history. It obviously isnt the answer. I am not saying prisons are unnecessary, but they are trying to sweep the core problems under the rug. Law and order types are sheep with a vengeance fetish.

key to understanding a lot of people's beliefs is that they think "criminal" is a type of inherent identity, rather than a labelled applied to you as a result of your relationship with specific laws. things that impact "criminals" will never impact me, because I am not a criminal
Peter Wolf@peterawolf

I’ve encountered a chilling number of people in everyday life who sincerely believe that only the guilty get targeted by security forces, and therefore anyone targeted by security forces must be somehow guilty—cops, ICE, doesn’t matter: the Men in Uniform only do this to Bad Guys

@NotPotBol @acrid1949 Ehhhhh i think china had to do it. I dont know if they still have too, but it put them in a position to undercut western monopolies or co-op their new tech. I dont think it can really be replicated.

@acrid1949 I believe that they could achieve similar or greater results by doubling down on planned economies, especially in the modern technological era. I believe the opening up to foreign capital, even if they retain control of it, has steered them too far from the socialist path to 1/

I mean the steps are pretty simple 1. Proletarian revolution 2. Actually build some basic functioning infrastructure and industry 3. Let the west give you infinite money in investment 4. Retain control over all the new stuff stuff being made with the investment.

Everyone leftie econ guys are Chinamaxxing, but never giving instructions on poor countries can replicate China's success. Usually just vague gestures on cheap electrcity and EVs are going to be to the world, fair enough, but never concrete instructions on what to do.

@GavinSBaker China decided to stop importing oil This idea we are in some grand rivalry with China when they basically bailed the US out of a major energy crisis doesn’t really hold water anymore

Kinda wild how wrong most energy experts were about the Straits of Hormuz. What were the root causes of the error? China had more reserves than anticipated, US flexed up exports faster and more ships were actually transiting the straits via the Omani route? Genuinely curious.
