Shoutout to those who believe denying #ClimateChange is smart. It only permits Trump & others to rollback laws that cleanse our land, water, & air, reduce microplastics & forever chemicals, while increasing corporate $. #Pollution makes us all sick. Wake up and hug a grandchild.

@nytdavidbrooks In your recent Atlantic piece, which asks why so many people like Trump, you tell Democrats: “don’t feel too self-righteous here. If he was on your team, most of you would like him too.” Nope. Never. Some of us still live in that moral universe you long for.

@maddow As a new Canadian listener, am enjoying your coverage of 1st 100 days. You have reported on Trump’s tanking polling, but your listeners might benefit from a better breakdown of the numbers—is his base turning against him, or not? Also, I find “by a margin of” too vague!

@calxandr @EuropeanPravda Chris: I am lucky that during my 30-years in the Canadian Forces we had journalists like @davidpugliese, who challenged us with his relentless pursuit of the truth. Players who want to control the message are the real problem. Vindictive attacks add little to informed debate.

@WHMTE @MercedesGlobal It’s hard to develop good government or military communications when the politicians want all the face time. With rampant foreign interference and other sources of disinformation, politicians need to better leverage the communications potential of the bureaucracy & the military.

Fumbles like this have a greater chance of happening when the implicated department (in this case Defence) refuses to put out a spokesperson - ideally in uniform given the circumstances - in a timely way to provide updates of confirmed facts. In lieu thereof, a variety of well-meaning persons will clamour to be quick to publicly speak running the risk of releasing info outside their remit - even, as it turns out, the international development minister (though presumably that will be chocked up to 'staff error'). When will politicos and senior military leaders learn that CAF need an official military spokesperson?

We have also asked a number of questions about timelines. The PM indicated he had spoken with the Chief of Defence Staff and expressed condolences the night before. The helicopter did not crash until after midnight. The personnel who died were not declared dead until Wed evening

@butchpanic We're sorry to hear you're having issues. Our tech teams are working on a fix. This is their first priority. At this time, there is a work around where if you have access to a desktop, the full site has been able to send E-transfers with less issues. ^JD

@TD_Canada any idea when e-transfer will work again? It’s rent day and a lot of people rely on the app to pay our rent!

🇨🇦⚔️ DND lied to the press, said the plane wasn't theirs. After other departments were contacted, DND owned up to it b/c of undeniable proof from the plane's transponder. Just training? Why would they lie to the press? They never meant for the public to know.
Steffan Watkins @steffanwatkins

Hasn't anyone thought about the implications of what the government admits to doing? Forget that they factually, deliberately, stopped transmitting Mode-S/ADS-B to hide their "training" operations over Ottawa; what is their data retention policy, on the data they collected from all our cell phones while "training" in 2022, over the convoy, and "training" over Ottawa over the Summer 2021, or anywhere else over Canada? Where did the data go? Who made a copy before it was deleted? How do they know that? They didn't mention any of that. They're circling Ottawa, for days, practicing ISR - Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance, what do you think they're practicing, and who do you think they're practicing on? #CANSOFCOM is not above the law, even when they're "training". They must have policies on how to handle the Canadian public's data while conducting domestic-use training in preparation for the CE-145 Super King Air, over a major city. The only logical reason to do ISR "training" over a major city is to use the emissions below; else they could train over Petawawa, minutes away. Cell phone and wireless users of Ottawa, our data and conversations, over wireless devices of all kinds, are part of their training. Nobody should be comfortable with unwittingly being part of their "training", without at least an explanation from the Canadian government. We shouldn't need to pull it out of them, they should be proactively disclosing these details to the public; that's our data they're using. The Gov't of Canada, CANSOFCOM, stated they were doing training, over Ottawa, with a plane outfitted to collect everyone's electronic chatter below; that's us. WE are below. That's OUR chatter they're collecting. Where's it going? Does it go back to the United States on the contracted American aircraft being used for the "training"? Is it made available to the American IC? How about American LEO? Is it at least treated as Canadian Eyes Only (CEO)? We don't know. 🤷‍♂️

@sbrucecanada @jodyfisher Point taken! I think you make very good points, especially WRT training. TBH, I was thinking more of media relations, as you allude. Still, it is important read and reach your audience, including one of journalists—what are their questions telling you, is your message resonating.

@scanlonjd @jodyfisher I could have said that better. Media is an audience in the sense you outline, and if pitching a story or sending MAs and NRs. I think I was focusing on when you're delivering your interview, the media are a conduit to reaching that audience. It’s a professional relationship.

@sbrucecanada @jodyfisher Media are a key audience too. When phones start ringing, they may know more than you—these “conversations” can be helpful in building your picture both of the crisis & how it is being perceived. And, inter alia, it helps if media perceive your spokesperson & company as credible…

@jodyfisher I did crisis comms and media training today with a client. I reinforce several things, but these three are key: 1. Prepare and know what you're going to say. 2. Own your message and tell your story. 3. The media isn't the audience - they are your conduit to your public.

Grave robbery in #WWI: The grave of Canadian Captain William Durie in Toronto. Captain Durie was killed in France in December 1917 and initially buried in Loos British Cemetery. When his mother Anna was unsuccessful in lobbying for his body to be returned to Canada, she took matters into her own hands. On the night of 25th July 1925 she stole into the cemetery, dug up her son's remains and returned to Canada with them hidden in a suitcase. She had them reburied in the family plot in August, in the only known instance of such a forcible repatriation from the First World War. linktr.ee/matmclachlan

@cdnpao @CDN_PAO @OttawaCitizen 1, CDNunderscorePAO (@CDN_PAO) get your own handle. 2, for many, military & CAF are synonyms. My mom often says I was in the “army” (I was Navy). For many “army” = “military.” 3, This is a weak attempt to smear @davidpugliese—if you have a point, park the smear, be constructive.

@CDN_PAO @OttawaCitizen Okay, explain it to us in more detail. This notion of the military as a national institution is what leads people to suppress truths about inappropriate behavior. They believe the institution must be protected more than any individual who has been sexually harassed or assaulted

For a guy who spends so much time writing about the CAF, he sure doesn't seem to understand the difference between the military (an institution) and "Canadian Forces [sic] personnel and their families". 😂 @OttawaCitizen

@TimDocChoi Academic integrity? Where's the integrity in insults? Integrity refers to the quality of being honest & having strong moral principles, which IMHO describes @davidpugliese. Make your point wisely and respectfully. Value the #FreePress. Don't attack it. It's already under assault.
