Every headstone tells a story... this one stopped me in my tracks today. What a soldier this man must have been. Respect.

A great help. Marker stone indicating jump off trench for 5 US Division on 4 October 1918. Protected from the elements by a tree. Which is handy as it has been persisting down all morning

I wasn’t sure if I should post this, but I found it very moving so decided to share. I’m doing some research for an upcoming history podcast/book about the backpacker murders (a truly horrific story) and visited a few of the key sites in the forest today. At the spot where Simone Schmidl died, someone has left a small tribute, complete with a German flag. It was uplifting to see signs of love and remembrance in such a dark place.

Wandering around Bury St Edmunds this morning and found this fabulous bench, looks like part of the fuselage from a USAAF bomber, gifted to the city of Bury StE in 1945 by the US Army Air Force

Great to be featured in Escape in News Ltd newspapers in the lead-up to Anzac Day. Visiting the battlefields really is life-changing. What a privilege to be able to help other people share this experience.

A busy Anzac Day commemorating the 110th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings. As part of about 30 TV, radio and print interviews I did, this one on 2GB was one of the most enjoyable. Hope you all had a special day. Lest we forget. 2gb.com/legacy-of-the-…

No one asked whether these chaps were Christian, Sikh, Muslim, Buddhist or Hindu. They were all of these.
