@YVLJORDAN1 by being the most well known tv show of American production? At least that is the argument they are making, cause Spain doesn't "have" money heist, some Spanish people made it.

@Egroeg_Yornom @elormkdaniel TB exists and it is decimal. TiB exists and it's binary. Vendors are accurate. Windows says your files are TB but calculating the number as if they are TiB. They are not. Linux says your files are TiB. This is correct. Windows is the problem!

When manufacturers sell a 2TB SSD, they calculate storage using the decimal system. To them, 1TB equals 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. So 2TB means 2 trillion bytes. But your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux) doesn’t count storage that way. It uses the binary system, where 1TB (technically 1 TiB) equals 1,099,511,627,776 bytes. So when your OS converts those same 2 trillion bytes into binary units, it shows: 2,000,000,000,000 ÷ 1,099,511,627,776 ≈ 1.8 TB It’s just two different measurement standards fighting each other. On top of that, a tiny bit of space is also used for file systems, formatting, and system metadata, which makes the number look slightly smaller again.

Billionaires should not exist Let me explain, hear me out It has nothing to do with economics or equality It's all about hedonic adaptation It's about indulgence escalation The more power any human has, the more they can indulge in whatever they want, and insulate themselves from consequences Human neurology is simply not calibrated for this And very soon, the combination of Internet, blockchain and AI will allow us to coordinate mega projects at scale without elites to coordinate In other words, elites will not need to exist And from an evolutionary standpoint, we shouldn't allow them to exist Just throwing this out to see if it sticks. I'm not fully sold on this idea. But I want to discuss it Thoughts?

@SavannahFeder @matt_barrie Who said its about you? You are an employee promoting your company's product (I assume). In this framing you did nothing wrong. It's the product that is vile and soulless and stripping human connection and interaction while gobbling up resources like it's running out of fashion.

@TurkishCentury @KomisDracula Tell that to the military complex; buying weapons and platforms DOESN'T make you strong, because you did not build them yourself. Obviously, this is not true, buying anything make it yours to use as you see, and buying the best, means you have the best.

Continuity of what? Shopping for other countries' products while calling yourselves the world's #1 seafaring nation? There's nothing "Greek" or "Hellenic" about those ships except for the old trireme. Italy and France sell them to anyone with the cash. This policy of 100% dependence on others isn't anything to be proud of.

For DAYS, 🇬🇷 #Athens has been bombarding the world with these warship pictures, with Greek MoD #Dendias leading the cheerleader squad as if this is some "proud moment" in Greece's history. Let's set things straight: The one and only thing that's Greek in the photo is the trireme on the left from the 5th century BCE! The other two ships, Kimon and Averof were acquired from 🇫🇷 France (2026) and Italy 🇮🇹 (1910) in exchange for lots of cash and other concessions.

@dalepharrell @davepl1968 I didn't bring up Spiner—you did. If anyone can serve while "struggling" or "fat," then the strict physical lore you claim exists... doesn't. You demand aesthetic perfection from the new cast while forgiving the old ones for being human. That isn't "Lore"; it's just bias. 2/2

@dalepharrell @davepl1968 Resorting to insults just proves you're out of arguments. You posted the picture as proof; now that it backfired, it "doesn't matter"? You admitted Doohan got a pass for "nostalgia." That destroys your premise. True military fitness standards do not have "tenure exceptions." 1/2

Star Trek was progressive, it was never woke. They had a black female officer on the bridge, but her job was Communications, not being a "black female officer", and that's the difference. I can't speak past TNG, but I think the original series is a great example of a show with a progressive ideology that was neither woke nor preachy.
Robert Picardo@RobertPicardo

Long before the term existed, Star Trek's heart was "woke" & even though that word has been hijacked & made a cudgel to insult, to ridicule & - at the toxic extremes of social media - to justify prejudice & racism, Star Trek's heart is strong & still beating for those listening

@mattfitzct @davepl1968 Endocrinology, neurology, phenotype. That’s why medical boards support transition. You're wrong about the 90s: they cited 'science', labeling being gay a 'biological error.' You cite science now, but it's really a lack of advanced knowledge driving you, stuck in school biology.

@SWChrisCreative @davepl1968 You claim TOS lacked 'oppressed/oppressor' models before 2010? 'The Cloud Minders' is literally about elites oppressing a labor underclass. 'Battlefield' is blunt racial conflict. Trek ALWAYS used alien metaphors to bypass censors. TNG even tackled trans rights in 'The Outcast'.

@seePyou @davepl1968 So how do we determine if that's the real dynamic, or if it's assuming the conclusion before considering other reasons for pushback?

@mattfitzct @davepl1968 Wrong. 90s anti-gay arguments relied heavily on 'biology' too. They argued homosexuality was 'biologically unnatural' and an 'evolutionary dead end.' You're recycling the exact same appeal to 'Basic Biology' from 30 years ago. It’s the same prejudice, just rebranded as science.

@mattfitzct @davepl1968 Your 'semi-objective framework' in the 90s was that being gay was a 'lifestyle choice' and a contagion. They used that 'morality' to fire teachers and ban creators. You dismissing trans identity now with 'he says he's a woman' is the exact same script.

@seePyou @davepl1968 Not only is "Internet speed" a significant difference, but the actual things they wanted people to comply with were at least based in some kind of semi-objective moral framework, not "he says he's a woman, so you have to acknowledge it."

@dalepharrell @davepl1968 So your 'military fitness standard' has an exception clause for characters you like and Kirk has a medical reason for glasses that can't possibly apply to anyone else. You gave them a pass because of nostalgia, but label the new characters 'woke' for the same trait. Good job.

@seePyou @davepl1968 The body positivity movement is under the umbrella of what's deemed "woke". Kirk's glasses were antique & a gift because he was allergic to Retinax V. James Doohan was old & fat, this was widely mocked but accepted because he was a returning cast member, not a brand new casting

@bmariner @davepl1968 You're judging 90s TV by 2024 metrics. In 1995, a single lesbian kiss got episodes banned. Doing 'only' 3 episodes back then was a bigger political statement than doing 30 today. The intent to push boundaries was exactly the same.

@seePyou @davepl1968 Let's keep the goalposts stationary for a minute here, anon. I'm talking about the gender/queer angle. You listed 3 episodes where this was a focus. 3 episodes, anon. In a franchise with 726 episodes and 10 movies prior to Discovery. Just stop.

@mattfitzct @davepl1968 We forget. The 'Moral Majority' and PMRC in the 80s/90s explicitly campaigned to get people fired, albums banned, and careers ruined for not adhering to their standards. The tactics—boycotts, firing demands, public shaming—are identical. The only difference is the internet speed

@seePyou @davepl1968 Again, yes, I know. I lived it, too. But in light of the tremendous bullshit that followed it pales in comparison. Not being PC wasn't a real threat to one's livelihood like happens now. Also, *that* culture war is still the same war, and I'm not sure we're actually winning.
