@neogoose_btw There is really no point in working more if it reduces your hourly wage.

@cmuratori I caved and upgraded to Windows 11, but I would be really interested in the outcome of this since it is the last area that I use Windows for. The audio situation on Linux has always been dismal for no apparent reason given that it is a comparatively easy problem to solve.

Continuing my slow migration of our machines to Linux, I am going to try switching the music computer. I was going to try Ubuntu Studio as the distro first, but I figured I'd ask here to see what y'all think is best. (It's basically just a machine for running Reaper + VST)

@etscrivner The amount of damage that Robert Martin et al. have done to the software industry is quite sureal.

Casey actually did the badly needed critical reevaluation of Alan Kay (and Bjarne Stroustrup).

Just finished this and I think this is a hugely important talk. A critical history of OOP. The 35-year walk away from Douglass T. Ross and Ivan Sutherland only to return to them with entity-component systems and fat structs.

@walaber This needs better fonts, anti-aliasing for the 3D objects and Steam integration (like the Zachtronics games).

🤔Is there such a thing as a 'cozy' coding game? In my game "Replicube" you replicate 3D objects made from cubes by writing simple code using math + logic. Available now on Steam (free demo too)

@0xglitchbyte Beware that Quantum Computing is a bit of a scam. The math behind it is worth knowing though.

@ChShersh I know this is extremely nit-picky but ergonomics matter (for the perception of programming languages that are mostly only used for fun).

@ITSecMedia @cmuratori $40 seems fine for something you use daily. The bad font rendering makes the software unfortunately unusable.

@cmuratori Sorry but even when Windows 11 File Explorer is the worst experience ever .... its hard to justify such a hefty price for this alternative

If you're tired of Windows Explorer's laggy behavior and lack of features, there is some very good news: FilePilot is now in open beta!

@rfleury I am fine with the distinction of documents and toolboxes in a text editor (with the document panel being special). I will take it over most modern software that has regressed in this area (like VS Code or the JetBrains GUIs).

@thtrummer If by "correctly" you mean "crashes when you drag a panel around, and only some of the panels are draggable", then... I guess?

@Jonathan_Blow It's a high-clock laptop APU with up to 16 Zen 5 cores and 40 GPU CUs. So it's a lot of everything :)

Left shift key on the Framework 16 has started sticking for no reason, making the laptop borderline unusable for any reason at all. Seems like it's that time of year where I buy another new laptop and it is even worse than what I bought last year...

It's that time of the year again where we update the screenshots in the readme again because lots of things have changed since the last time. Especially the next version of ImHex will have a HUGE amount of UI/UX facelift on all systems

@jeffdafo @dodothebird @theo I have yet to see a code review catching a bug I created. It usually devolves into discussions about blue versus green. This time is (in my opinion) better spent in writing tests. At the same, I did some testing with LLMs for code reviews and they gave surprisingly good feedback.

@dodothebird @theo You don't do code reviews? Or do you have those mythical developers who never introduce bugs?

This is the amount of shader ISA code the compiler produces for a single atan2(). Avoid using it for time critical code.
