@natehoodstp @yhdistyminen There’s no amount they could offer to cut top marginal tax rates for it to be worth voting for them. Their other ideas are just too loathsome.

@ostopezdo @historydefined Yes most. But Chicken tikka masala was Scotland; and Hawaiian pizza was Canada
English

@historydefined Every popular ethnic food, chicken Parmesan, pizza, chicken masala and so on is created in America
English

Chicken Parmesan is not originally an Italian dish. It was created in America by Italian immigrants, with the first published recipe appearing in a New York newspaper in 1953.
The dish later became hugely popular in Australia, where it is often served with salad and fries. Australians still debate whether the fries should be placed under the chicken.

@maxdubler If ‘funded’ IZ was possible in California I’d support but since it’s not, then let’s do away with it

@disneyfluff @SpinDaBlock757 @JenniferJJacobs @CBSNews @JimLaPorta It wasn’t a big deal when the Navy had a hundred more ships and we were at peace. Now we’re at war and China’s posturing and every single ship is suddenly more important.
English

Scoop via @CBSNews: A major fire broke out this week on the USS Higgins, a guided-missile destroyer, sources told @JimLaPorta and me.
The fire knocked out electricity and propulsion on the destroyer, a mainstay of the Navy’s forward presence in Asia.
Details of how the fire started and the exact location of the Higgins in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command were not readily available. More here:

@flowerlole @AnergoTeacher Surely First Nations are ethnically Canadian and nationally Canadian; everyone else is just nationally Canadian.
English

@AnergoTeacher Canadian is a nationality/citizenship. It isn't an ethnicity. Anyone can be Canadian. His mom was probably born in Canada to Greek immigrant parents. That's how she became Canadian. Or better yet, a Canadian of Greek ancestry or Greek-Canadian.

@markfrancisio @jasonc_nc It appears they think anyone who owns a business is filthy reach and abuses their customers. Maybe too many Marxist classes in college? 🤔
English

Yes, after each coffee shop reaches its one year anniversary we all gather and help the owner pick out their yacht.
Nothing like that first store yacht, the fifth one just doesn’t hit the same.

@_manuvers @3lfares He said that after this war Ukraine should be as armed as Israel was to prevent the next Russian invasion. People heard “Ukraine should be like Israel” and stopped thinking

Stay ahead of the lanternfly hatching.
They are about to burst this year, from now through the next few weeks.
If you are in NYC, check a local Tree of Heaven, although these pests can live anywhere.
NYC has trees in the city tagged.
Instead of doing Pokemon Go and hunting mythical beasts, how about using city, state, and federal data sources to track and identify the lanternfly problem right now?
You can make a data science project out of this. Any takers?
These egg masses can be destroyed by simply using rubbing alcohol and scraping them off the trees.
Make a game out of it. Use the NYC tree map to learn more about the types of trees in NYC. Tag and remove lanternfly pests.

In Sarajevo, Serbian snipers killed about 225 people over four years in "Sniper Alley."
Fascist Russia's "Human Safari" in Kherson has achieved a similar number of targeted civilian deaths (200+) in roughly half the time.
And drones are not limited by line-of-sight: they can "hunt" around corners and into courtyards, so the danger zone is the entire city, not just a single boulevard.
There's not been much outcry from the civilized world, however. Follow @ZarinaZabrisky and @CaolanReports for first-hand reporting of this ongoing atrocity.

@thegauguy The Ukrainians are asking for twitter users to donate used pickup trucks. I think the M113 may be more survivable than an old Nissan 🤷🏾♂️

Can someone tell the Ukrainians that armoured combat vehicles are a thing from the past as we have drones? Yes? No?

Track Ukraine by @DylanBurns1776 tracks politicians who support, take money, or legitimize in any way Russia, Russian war of agression, or genocide against Ukrainians, spreading awareness of horrendous enemies of human rights amongst both Right and Left, while in the samy way underlining and supporting those honest and principled.

@Slimavyu @KennyBurgosNY If the former tenant had thrown it out, sure. As a landlord renovating it, it probably becomes “construction waste” that cannot be dumped into the regular trash system without incurring penalties if I had to guess
English

@KennyBurgosNY It’s trash, all of it goes to the garbage, why would that be more than a days job. The plumbing/electrical upgrades varies, it doesn’t have to be a new panel or new drain pipes.
Show me the bill for 400k on a single unit because literally to build a brand new condo is 320k avg.
English

These are so frustrating to receive.
A building owner sent me this video of a 2BR Upper West Side apartment he just got back, but after he empties it out it will stay vacant going forward.
The tenant lived here since 1985 and the current legal rent is $940.01
Because of the 2019 HSTPA law, a building owner is expected to fully renovate this unit to current building code (that’s a good thing), but also expected to lose money in perpetuity at the same time.
This 2BD would need well over $100,000 to clean out the debris, comply with lead laws, upgrade major systems, remove the Sheetrock + much more just to make this into an apartment a tenant would actually want to live in with dignity.
But the law says the $940 rent would still end up below the estimated $1300/mo it costs to operate the apt which covers insurance, property taxes, labor, fuel, and capital expenditures for the building.
So if the new rent falls below the operating cost, the owner would still lose money every month and never see $1 back from the $100k+ renovation.
Why would the state expect anyone to lose money like this? What bank would ever provide a loan with no path to repayment? Why do we acknowledge the cost to build housing but ignore what it takes to preserve older housing?
Why do we accept this policy when thousands of New Yorkers are searching for housing in the midst of the worst supply crunch we’ve ever seen?
So frustrating.
