@realsashastone It really wasn't an event to be taken as political, it was a energy filled extravaganza. Like anything of this nature, people performing and in the crowd are running on adrenaline overload. No one is sitting around contemplating the depth of any statement.

TAX THE TRILLIONAIRES! Here is why: If California would tax Elon 50% of his wealth, that would add $550 BILLION for the California budget (instead of going to Mars and build infinity intelligence, which is useless anyway because no one needs intelligence, duh). This could make a HUGE difference for Californians. Experts calculated that within 5 years, the state could * buy 2 homeless people a bed (shared) * complete 1 mile of high speed train tracks * buy 50 million pre-signed mail-in ballots, including on-time delivery for the next 2 elections. That's why we need a trillionaire tax. NOW.

@ATXVideos Civil disobedience can be effective and high injustices. However, I think to be truly effective the person violating the law to highlight the law should be willing to suffer the consequences. It's that final sacrifice that puts the final emphasis on the issue.

📜BACKSTORY: This all happened because Mike refused to pay fare on the 337 bus, after watching two fare evaders get away with it on the last 337. "You have to pay. It doesn't matter who else is not following the rules, you still have to pay fare." CapMetro Supervisor ultimately called Transit Police, and the bus was held up for OVER AN HOUR before they arrived. Full video of police interaction will be posted at 9:00pm Central.

Officer Hughes promised to have a serious conversation with @CapMetroATX chain of command about Equal Enforcement.

@grahamformaine Why would a person ever say something like that? That is an incredibly stupid view of economics and the world. Sounds like something a child would blurt out around a group of adults hoping to get attention and fit in only to be looked at as an imbecile.

@DebraHairy @SarahisCensored That applies to things like walking in on a cheating spouse and losing control. That type of event didn't play out in this case, the kid had a lengthy back and forth and arguably ratched up the intensity.

Verdict - Guilty. I am still inside the courthouse. We are currently waiting on the jury to finish deliberating on sentencing. After sentencing will be the victim impact statements. I will update everyone when I leave for the day. I just wanted everyone to know that we are safe.

@MarkDavis Stand your ground applies as an aspect of self defense in some cases. They wanted to preserve it. But self defense really doesn't apply at all. Im saying they didn't want to further limit their options, bad as they are.

@MarkDavis The provocation and proportionality elements are hard for the defense to overcome. But they did what they could by keeping stand your ground in play.

I said this morning that while the prosecution case was strong, it is wise to wait for the defense to have its say. With that job wrapped so briefly, I’m glad to hear any perspective that suggests the defense team has a leg to stand on.

#KarmeloAnthony trial Defense just rested State closes evidence Defense closes evidence We will hear closing arguments in the morning and then jury will be sequestered after that.

@JLBrightLaw The restriction was blade lenght in that location. The knife was legal, the police officer called testified to that fact. As to stand your ground, the defense is claiming self defense, they can say he didn't have to reteat due to syg. But SD doesn't work here.

@JLBrightLaw The defense made sure to keep stand your ground in play with getting the knife was legal and he was allowed legally inside the tent. But it will be hard to get around provocation. All they can hope is to convince the jury he was bluffing to scare them off.

Both sides Rest and Close. Jury dismissed. Closing Arguments tomorrow morning. Jury starts deliberating. Here's what happens this afternoon: Both sides will work on proposed Jury Instructions, many of which are standard and used frequently. Here's the catch: I do not legally believe the Defense team laid the proper predicate to get a Self-Defense instruction into the Charge. The witnesses they did call weren't even in their favor ultimately. At the end of the presentation of evidence, it actually appears that Karmelo was an instigator as he stated "Y'all are puss*es." I am hard pressed to believe that Judge Roach would not grant the Defense team that defense being in the Charge, but I don't think should be, the facts don't warrant it. Closing should be fascinating. The Defense team which I know and respect professionally had almost nothing to work with and suffered from a couple of self-inflicted woulds. One word of serious respect to them though: you never heard a word from them starting all of the absurd racial controversy and bullish surrounding this case. Never. We can't control the families of those we represent. We can ask them to stop. We can try or best to make a case, but we can only work with the facts we are given. Everyone deserves a 6th amendment guaranteed right to a fair jury trial, everyone.
Breanna Morello@BreannaMorello

🚨UPDATE🚨 The defense has rested its case. Karmelo Anthony did not testify. The jury has been dismissed for the day and will return tomorrow for closing arguments from both sides before beginning deliberations.

After four days covering Karmelo Anthony’s trial, I still have no idea what his actual legal defense was. Maybe that is the defense — having no defense — so he can set up an appeal later.

It’s so refreshing to discuss the Karmelo Anthony case without the insults, with people who can go beyond “he killed somebody” or “he shouldn’t have been under the tent.’” Law is layered and demands critical thinking, multiple POVs, reasoning range and depth. Unfortunately, not everyone has that. But the ones who do? I enjoy the conversation.

@Arkypatriot It's against school policy, not Texas statute. The blade would have to be more then 5.5 inches to be illegal.

So the less than stellar defense counsel in the Anthony case for the murder of Metcalf presented evidence that the knife in the alleged murderers hands was a legal knife in the state of Texas So fucking what? I highly doubt first of all it was allowed in a high school or at a high school event. Just because something is legal to own does not mean it can’t become a deadly weapon. A kitchen knife may be legal. So is a fork. So is a baseball bat. So is a rope. So is a rock from the driveway. A tire jack from your car, a pair of high heels, a shovel, these are all perfectly legal things to own until you decide to turn them into a weapon. The question isn’t only, “Was it legal to possess?” The question is, “How was it used, displayed, threatened, or intended in that moment?” Legality doesn’t magically remove danger. Context matters. Intent matters. Actions matter.
