I woke up this morning to find out @elonmusk is supporting my re-election! Elon’s purchase of Twitter and cultivation of the X platform for free speech has already helped my cause immensely. It’s allowed me to bypass conventional media to refute the lies of both political parties and to provide transparency about how Congress works and what’s actually inside of the bills we vote on. Exposing the worst parts of the Big Beautiful Bill and reasserting Congressional War Powers has recently earned me the ire of the swamp and a fight for my re-election, but my re-election isn’t really about either of those issues specifically. It’s a referendum on whether members of Congress can think and act independently based on what’s best for the country, or whether all members of congress must be reduced to rubber stamps for their respective political parties and swampy special interests. I’m extremely thankful to have Elon Musk’s financial assistance to continue my mission as an independent voice in Congress for my constituents.

@YoniSmolyar They spoofed the number which Is easily do able with mobile numbers (there's free apps that do this) that's why it was marked as spam or likely scam. Then they just sent a password reset to you

INCREDIBLE X phishing scam! i almost just got rekt i get a call from +1 (415) 222-9670. it says spam risk. i don't answer, it goes to voicemail and immediately calls back. i decline. immediately calls back a third time and i answer. they tell me they are from X support, that someone is trying to change the phone number on file to a number ending in 4161 so they are just confirming (idk that number). perfect english, young woman voice, like so good it's maybe AI? i'm intrigued i tell them idk, not me, they say ok someone is trying to get into your account so we're calling as a security measure. we need to secure your account. we sent a code to your number (read the last 4 digits, i confirmed). i got a code from 40404 (google confirms X does send codes to through this number) person on the phone is constantly applying pressure. sir just a reminder if we don't proceed your account will be compromised by the other person. like indian scam call center tactic but from a nice young american woman voice but i'm scared to read this string of characters i just got via SMS. i even tell the person on the phone that i'm scared. i've never heard of people trying to change account info and X support calling to reset password for you? but i HAVE heard of scams where someone calls you impersonating X support and puts pressure and they reset your password and take your account from you i ask why does it say spam risk on caller id. she says it happens sometimes. she reassures me by telling me to just google the number i'll see it's from X google results are not from X directly. but they are from reddit threads and different websites that allude to this being X related. but i'm SO sussed out like i keep stalling i ask why does it say Aloye Computer Enterprises on google associated with this number. she says that's the company that owns our phone number i ask if i can just reset my password on my own. she says that's not how it works, to secure my account they will send me a temporary 24hr password then i can reset it myself after person on the phone continues applying pressure. sir just a reminder this is urgent. i stall and stall, they ask if i'd rather them send it to email, i say ok, suddenly I get a password reset email from info@x.com i'm looking really close to see if there are hidden characters in the URL or what's going on, but it seems legit it's really from X but duh ANYONE can send a password reset request to your account from outside. they just need to know your email associated which they can get from a number of different places your email is floating around it's not hard to find it eventually i stall so long that the forgot password email expired so she says she has to send a new one. i get another email. she asks me to read it. i'm stalling and furiously googling. i can't find any definitive evidence that this is a scam. start to consider that maybe this is all legit, i'm being a psycho to this innocent support person from X just trying to help me i'd like to think i'm pretty competent and hard to scam. but man i started reading the string of characters in the forgot password email! i read the first three letters then stop. scared she's frustrated. sir i need you to read all the characters. i tell her i'm scared she raises her voice a tiny bit (this is what makes me think it was human woman not AI) and says would you like me to get my supervisor sir? i say yes please! she says my supervisor will call you in 1-2 minutes and hangs up immediately. never got a call. holy shit! i'm generally super skeptical and defensive online (to my benefit) but man these type of calls will absolutely ravage nursing homes and more vulnerable people. not even just nursing homes i think likely people age 40+ are getting rekt by calls like this enormous business opportunity in scam prevention for older people. go around senior living facilities and explain to older folks that under no circumstances EVER should you give any sensitive information EVER to anyone over the phone. and don't let anyone reset your password over the phone either

I used a computer every day of my life and my first day on Mac I had no idea how to install something or what it was asking me to do without looking it up. Should just double click and install. It's actually horrible ux. They can show an animation of it going on your applications folder

@nizzyabi because it’s a fun ui and is really good from a ux point of view- it clearly shows that the app you downloaded from the internet is being saved into your applications folder also, the alternative is clicking “next” over and over again (cough, windows, cough)

My last job had thousands of devs, and they made a big point about setting up lots & lots of git & Atlassian. And everyone learned how to git, and then filled it with trash or decoy code, because no one wanted to put their best work in git because that would be like giving away trade secrets to IT and fellow developers.

The whole point of a vault manager is to stop a compromised instance from leaking all your secrets... So if a vault key is leaked via compromised instance what do you think happens? (All your secrets are leaked) If the secrets are ingested as needed via direct connection there is no vault secret sitting in a .env for them to grab all other secrets. They can only do a memory dump and see what's currently loaded in memory. If you're going to store your vault key in a .env it's no different then storing all of your secrets in the same env bc that key leads to all keys.... you just added one extra step for the attacker.

@watchgate @RhysSullivan It does because you can see which key is accessing the secrets in case someone has theirs leaked. It is like an identity manager. And a ENV is injected at runtime depending on your testing environment. Mine is docker such that I don’t actually have a .env file.

@UltraSive @RhysSullivan If you're going to store a secret for all ur other secrets what's the point in even using a vault? Vaults should be accessed via identity managers and direct connections and injested at run time. Simplifying all your secrets to one secret doesn't make it better....
