THREAD: I recently finished tweaking a data science project with a goal of identifying the ideal metric to evaluate an RB's rushing performance, isolating individual play as much as possible. Here’s the final formula: RBIS = (MTF/Attempt * 10) + YAC/ATT - (YBC/Attempt/2)

@joelvmoran Problematic handle. Dribbles high and doesn’t have much control, just like James Bouknight coming out.

Kingston Flemings is nowhere close to being the best point guard in this class He’s a role player. There’s nothing wrong with that but he’s an underwhelming shot creator and average playmaker.

Oh god, it’s colored graph season for wideouts that mean nothing because there is no omit input for plays where receivers run into leverage

@EscrivaU21 @NetsMuse He couldn’t make his shots. If he can sleepwalk to 30 those are the scenarios guys like that dream of. Now you’re saying a guy who can sleepwalk to 30 needs ample help around him?

@2HighCoverage @NetsMuse "Minimal talent around him" completely proves my point. You expected a pure isolation scorer to magically become a two-way playmaker while carrying a completely broken second unit? The front office completely set him up to fail from day one.

@EscrivaU21 @NetsMuse Delusional. With minimal talent around him in Milwaukee he averaged 13p on terrible efficiency including 27% from 3. He plays no defense and he’s not a playmaker whatsoever. He’s genuinely bad, and “sleepwalking to 30” is a joke

@NetsMuse A guy who can literally sleepwalk to 30 points a night just got waived weeks after putting pen to paper. Be honest: A. The Bucks front office is completely lost right now B. His absolute refusal to play defense makes him unplayable

@TheRealForno You’re not crazy. Easy to attack him from 11 personnel. Imagine a guy like Nico Collins hitting him with a blaze out vs quarters half field cov. Easy money all day, just stick someone explosive inside and run a downfield breaking route.

Cam Boozer has looked like a stone footed college player that will struggle translating to the the NBA against more size, length, and foot speed 1.5 games into March Madness

@MinnyMurray1 Ridiculous. JJ has an immense amount of raw talent. Ponder’s issue was no talent. No arm talent whatsoever

Didn’t even chat with them, so no idea, but that kind of explains the answer to your question. Interviewed for another team for a role that was the middleman between coaching staff and data team and was a finalist, didn’t get it because they shifted it to injury specialist at final stage. This stemmed from reaching out to the team’s head scout which led to a 2 hour phone chat. Rubbed me the wrong way that a couple of different attempts didn’t even get a response, even with connections.

@2HighCoverage do you get any sense they've actually tried to change the scouting/evaluation process? seems they've just given the coaches (even) more control I gather that was the process as far back as 2022 (meaning Donatell had a lot to do with the biggest misses in that class)

Here's Ayo Dosunmu talking about what he's reading in pick and roll coverage and why he's taking more midrange shots in Minnesota after those were prohibited in Chicago. "In Chicago, midrange shots was really prohibited. It was 3s and layups, no midrange shots unless it's the end of the shot clock. Here, we got Rudy, he's setting big screens. So if you can set up pick and roll, you come off Rudy, you open." Dosunmu took 4 "long" midrange shots in 45 games in Chicago this season before being traded to Minnesota. And he's taken 12 in 15 games for the Wolves. Dosunmu has also nearly doubled the frequency in which he's taking shots from floater range. Dosunmu took 86% of his shots in Chicago at the rim or from 3. In Minnesota, he's becoming a three-level scorer. And his eFG% has stayed almost exactly the same.

@bryan_vossen All of them. I don’t believe any of them are likely to be anything more than low snap run stuffers.

@2HighCoverage Who are you referencing? Woods, Banks, Hunter, and Miller are more than run stopping DTs just not elite pass rushers. McDonald is 20 & athletic with ability to improve pass rush productivity but yes he falls into elite run stopper probably playing limited passing downs next year.

First round capital on a run stuffing DT is awful process. Every offseason sees multiple high-end run stuffers go off the market for cheap in both free agency and by way of trade. Hell, DJ Reader is still sitting there available.

@2HighCoverage I don’t see a DT at 18. Having one of the better ones slide to 49 would be ideal. DJ Reader signing would add a lot of flexibility in the draft.
