@train2000c Ehhh. Italy feels very much like Mexico lite. It's very corrupt, has problems with organized crime, the people are lazy, it lives in the shadow of an ancient civilization, but the food is great! Poland doesn't feel as culturally close to America than the countries mentioned.

@SteveSkojec ...have this experience (besides my restless heart finally finding some rest in prayer) is that if I had such an experience I would become intellectually lazy and addicted to it and if it would ever cease, I'd lose my faith.

@SteveSkojec I and my friend who studies theology are the same. We joke about us being hardcore materialists 99% of the time. But God gives everyone enough of His grace so that they come to Him. It's our choice to cooperate with that or not. My personal explanation would be that I don't...

@stoopidminidisc @2Philosophical_ That's actually not true. People who suffer greatly (victims of natural disasters, war etc.) tend to be more religious and people don't tend to deconvert, because of intellectual reasons. The reasons are actually: - Credibility in their peers - High standard of living

@2Philosophical_ These same people will then claim that it's an internal critique, but object to the solution that God allows evil to enable a higher (even when we don't see it). It follows a simple modus tollens.

Wasn't it the case that HIV became prevalent among gay men, because they were promiscuous and didn't practice safe sex? And in regard to cheating, couldn't it be the case that some closeted gay men were cheating on their wifes with other men and got it that way?
TroodonVet (Comms open on VGen)@troodonvet

Fun fact: the reason why HIV was associated with gays and lesbians is because they reported the disease. The disease affects everyone including the straights, but they kept it hidden because most of them get/spread the disease to their spouse because of cheating/prostitution.

"Given the new weapons that make possible destructions that go beyond the combatant groups, today we should be asking ourselves if it is still licit to admit the very existence of a 'just war.'" ~Ratzinger

People comment on the Holy Father’s appeals for peace as if unaware that contemporary warfare includes massive suffering & casualties of non-combatants. The lost innocents are not “regrettably necessary”. They are the judgment of God on us, the blood on our hands of Isaiah 1,15.

@bonesforsales Then I misread your claim, and I'm sorry for doing that. But I still think that the Deuterocanon was taught in the Early Church, especially Tobit, Judith and 2 Maccabees and many local councils confirmed them.

@AugustinEnjoyer Which is why I said developed "properly" after Augustine. I'm seeing a pattern on how ppl handle the early church here in twitter, especially those from RC and EO. I don't know why this is the case, I suppose it's a superiority complex that exist in those circles and it's sad.

Cool argument. My biggest gripe with it, would be why would God allow that for almost 1500 years the Deuterocanonical books be preached from and seen as authoritative?
fozzil🏵@bonesforsales

@SynnottMatthew Bet. We go to church to hear and share the word of God because God, by His Divine Authority, ensured that His Word is clear and enough for us to know His love for us.

@urpflanze_ You made the joke, that Jesus would side with Fanon on this question, not me. Or did I misread your joke?

@AugustinEnjoyer It's awful to even entertain these questions. This is one of the many reasons why colonialism shouldn't exist in the first place.

@bonesforsales Thanks for the thread, but I was just countering the historical claim of prayer to the saints developing after St. Augustine. Maybe the theological/dogmatic definition, but not the practice in itself.

@bonesforsales I identify the Early Church with the Fathers as they are the best witness to the Early Church we have and come closest to evidence for the claim "The deuterocanon was taught with authority". Also, prayer to the dead pre-existed Augustine as he records St. Monica and other...

And if you're long enough in these post-colonial circles they often let it slip that colonizer and white people are synonymous. It stretches so far that an Algerian in France can't really rape a French woman, because France colonized Algeria.

This is basically Frantz Fanon. In his work he argues that the colonized shouldn't worry about the human rights of the colonizer, because colonialism inherently denies the human rights of the colonized. The logical conclusion is then that the colonized can't rape a colonizer.

1. rape is an act of power, not sex (Feminist principle) 2. a Brown Muslim man has no power over a White Christian girl ("Black people can't be racist" principle) Therefore, 3. brown Muslim men cannot rape White Christian girls; it is as impossible for this to happen as it is for a Black person to be a racist against White people
