A lot of people are asking why more politicians are not like Ben Sasse. Because voters will not elect them, thatโ€™s why. They may say they care about character, but most donโ€™t vote that way. Instead they vote party line, ideology, self-interest, or out of pique against a perceived enemy. How can we expect our leaders to embody higher levels of virtue if a majority of voters donโ€™t make personal character a red line? It looks like we get the leaders we deserve.

Calamity Jane died August 1st, 1903 in Terry, SD. Her exact death location is gone, but her legend lives on. A larger than life figure of the Old West, she now rests beside Wild Bill Hickok in Mount Moriah Cemetery. History happened somewhere. Death Atlas shows you where and takes you there.

In 1995, 18-year-old Tabitha โ€œTabโ€ Guth was murdered in Toledo, Ohio. She left behind a family still seeking justice, and a daughter who never got to truly know her. Her story is still being carried forward. She is not forgotten. ๐Ÿ’” #TabithaGuth #Unsolved #JusticeForTabitha

John Wesley Hardin was one of the deadliest gunfighters of the American Old West, a Texas outlaw who claimed to have killed over 40 men. After years on the run, Hardin was captured in 1877 and spent 17 years in prison. While incarcerated, he studied law and was later admitted to the bar after his release in 1894. But his attempt at a new life didnโ€™t last long. On August 19, 1895, Hardin was shot in the back of the head while playing dice at the Acme Saloon in El Paso, Texas. The gunman was John Selman, a former lawman and gambler. Hardin died instantly, ending the life of one of the most notorious figures of the frontier. Today he remains a symbol of the violent mythology of the Old West, where fame, guns, and grudges often ended the same way.
