ethereum is still the main rwa base layer, but the data says something important. most rwa value is parked, not actively used. defillama shows ethereum with about $14.9b rwa active mcap and $16.4b onchain mcap. but defi active tvl is only $1.97b that means roughly 13% of active rwa value is actually being used inside defi. the top assets also tell the story. xaut and paxg alone are about $4.78b, so gold-backed assets still make up a huge chunk of ethereum rwa. then comes syrupusdc, buidl, tokenized funds, credit pools, and t-bill products. mostly because ethereum is good at issuance, custody, and settlement. but rwa composability is harder. big rwa mcap does not automatically mean deep liquidity. permissioning, kyc, redemption rules, and transfer limits still matter. the real unlock is not putting rwa on ethereum. it is making rwa usable without breaking compliance.
