Great to see my friends from the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association this week. I appreciate all the work they do on behalf of our cattle farmers across Kentucky, and I’m grateful for their advocacy efforts.

In Maine, toxic "forever chemicals" known as PFAS were present in wastewater sludge spread decades ago as fertilizer. Farmers were told this fertilizer was safe to use and using it would help their local municipalities. Instead, these toxic chemicals devastated some of our family farmers and rendered farm land and products unusable. The University of Maine is now a leader in research on how to address and remove PFAS, and it is critical the federal government continue to support this work. I've secured nearly $33 million through the Agriculture Appropriations bill over the past five years for the Agricultural Research Service at the University of Maine to establish a new Center of Excellence for PFAS Solutions, and will continue working to help farmers who are facing the consequences of PFAS contamination through no fault of their own.

I’m pleased that the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General has initiated an audit of the DOJ’s compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, following the letter Senator Blumenthal and I led in December. This is a critical step toward the transparency and accountability survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s horrific crimes both deserve and demand. In light of the continued stonewalling, an independent assessment of the DOJ’s apparent refusal to release the full Epstein files is vital. It is frustrating that Congress has been forced to continue pressing the Department to comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, but we will not rest until the survivors receive the justice they are entitled to. nytimes.com/2026/04/23/us/…

Republicans are lying to the American people when they say the SAVE Act is a voter ID law—it’s a proof-of-citizenship requirement that would make voting harder, if not impossible, for a lot of people. Passports are expensive, documents don’t always match, and the process can be a mess (been there). We should be making voting easier, not adding more hurdles. Democrats can own this by proposing their own bill that accepts a range of IDs, and includes automatic voter registration and Election Day as a national holiday for starters.

To be clear: Injecting someone with succinylcholine– a "temporary paralysis drug", would be attempted murder. This is a paralytic drug that prevents an individual from breathing.
