Pastiche is this word people use to dismiss anything that has a flavor of what has been made previously in the built world. But the problem with modern architecture is exactly lack of pastiche and continuous desire to do something new for the sake of new. Without any philosophical grounding of why. There’s no structure, no symmetry no integrity. As much as I’m pro individualism, when it comes to architecture, there needs to be a guiding principle with aesthetics taking a primary role. I’d take pastiche traditional architecture every time over modern glass boxes of slightly different shapes made by architects for the sole purpose of impressing other architects.
