Fascinating discussion about AI with @TheNewsAgents @lewis_goodall. I hugely appreciate Anthropic's approach, but missing from the convo is how gen AI is already decimating creative industries, taking jobs, redefining copyright & UK Gov is legislating to undermine it further.

"The thing I'm most scared of is companies deploying products without a much larger societal conversation." Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark on fears of unregulated AI being rapidly rolled out to the public. @lewis_goodall

"But on Thursday, Kennedy was confirmed by a vote of 52-48. No Democrats backed him. Former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was the lone Republican to vote against Kennedy." Spineless from the Republicans. A disaster for American health. buff.ly/4hX5ZBe

If Ukraine is forced to surrender its sovereign territory to Russia, it will be the greatest betrayal of a European ally since Poland in 1945. The UK must lead in Europe in defence of Ukraine. We cannot stand back and watch as Zelensky is bullied by Trump.

Zelensky is being forced to plead with Trump that his own country, which has spent so much blood and endured so much horror, is allowed to be at the negotiating table about its own future. That's where we're at- a return of great power politics. Putin's best week in years.

Let me show you an unusual pasta dish from the Philippines. This bolognese-cousin is mocked outside the Philippines but let me change your view. Food tells you so much about any country's groupthink - it's one of the easiest ways I can think of walking in somebody else's shoes just for a little bit. Pinoy sweet spaghetti really invites you into a fun-loving, easygoing mindset of the Philippines, with relics of past resourcefulness during lean times. You feel the Pinoy sense of fun and joy so clearly in the cuisine and in the lifestyle: their love of parties (at which this spaghetti features heavily) and karaoke! Let me show you how to make it - leave all judgment at the door - and get ready to meet a new comfort dish. I really think you'll love it. Let's go!

@lewis_goodall @TheNewsAgents brilliant coverage on AI & Musk! Creative industries have been shouting about the threat of AI for some time. Would you consider covering the UK AI Opportunity Action Plan? Clause 24 proposes to end copyright law as we know it. Inc for journalists.

This feels a far more devastating loss for the Democrats, even than 2016. 2016 the Dems had plenty of things to console them. A massive popular vote victory. A narrow electoral college loss in a few places. A rock solid ethnic minority coalition which looked like a solid electoral map of the future. Roe was intact. The Supreme Court was still balanced. They have none of that now. They're staring down the barrel of a transformed Republican Party and a sustained inability to know how to deal with Trump and Magaism. In policy terms, they also have nowhere to go. In Biden's term they governed exactly in line with their own instincts. It's been soundly rejected by the electorate.

For those waking up in US, bewildered in Europe, what happened? Have been on air for last 12 hours pouring over the data Here it is There's no silver lining for Democrats. Trump won everywhere. He's going to win the popular vote. He did better across the demographics. He grew his coalition, better with black voters, Latinos, young voters. The US become less racially divided by party. Harris underperformed Biden virtually everywhere. Trump improved on his 2020 margin in 2,367 counties. His margin decreased in only 240 counties.

He was the worst President in history. And when he got voted out, he tried to stage a coup. Then he stole national secrets and sold the ones he didn't store in the bathroom. He was convicted of fraud, found liable of sexual assault and convicted of 34 felonies. He is half a billion dollars in debt, owned by God only knows who, and the biggest national security risk the nation has ever had. But at least he's not a Black woman.

It took several days to count every ballot in 2020, and it’s very likely we won’t know the outcome tonight either. So please keep a few things in mind as you make your voice heard today: – Thousands of election workers around the country are working hard today. Respect them. Thank them.  – Don’t share things before checking your sources.  – Let the process run its course. It takes time to count every ballot.

Most of us Brits can’t vote against Trump, but we can influence what happens in the UK. Whether you’re tweeting, door knocking, or standing as a candidate, you’re helping push Trump’s politics out of Britain. So whatever happens in the US election, let’s keep up the fight for tolerance, respect, and cooperation at home.

I'm glad I don't have to write an endorsement piece, because I really wouldn't know how to go about it. Ever since 2015, when Trump descended the escalator, I have had the same feeling, which I've never quite seen articulated, so I will briefly try:

@jeanlaydon @MartinSLewis I really appreciate that Jeannie, I know it must be incredible difficult for people in your situation. I was a carer for a short time as a teenager, and it is very challenging without the proper support. I do feel that at least some progress is being made, hopefully more in time.

You try working while caring for a loved one Rachel. You do realise that it’s not the typical 9-5 Monday to Friday role where majority of carers have little time for themselves, care for more than the required 35 hours and have no time for paid work even if there was a job that had the hours required. It’s just a look we are thinking of carers which it is not

Just spotted.... this is a good change for benefits recipients, deductions can be soul-destroying. #budget "Caps deductions made through Universal Credit at 15% of the standard allowance. Before this Budget, it was 25%... approximately 1.2 million households will keep more of their Universal Credit payment each month, with households expected to be better off by an average of over £420 a year"

@jeanlaydon @MartinSLewis There is a rise in Carer’s Allowance: The weekly earnings limit will rise to the equivalent of 16 hours at the National Living Wage per week. • Largest increase ever to the benefit • Equivalent to more than £10,000 a year • 60,000 more carers will be eligible

That was a truly Labour Budget. Any other government could have chosen austerity 2.0. Instead, there was a lot to be proud of. 7 particularly progressive highlights:

Usually I don’t talk about stuff like this because frankly it happens way too often. But not today… As I pulled into the same faculty parking lot that I park in all the time @msstate, a white woman was coming out of my office building. Her car was parked next to the space I pulled into.
