In the past 12 months, our family has traveled across China from north to south and east to west - taking planes, trains, and automobiles. We've visited big cities, little villages, and everything in between. And I can tell you - the Chinese middle class are living what we were once told was The American Dream. Multi-generation families with 1~2 kids staying in pool villas that cost $200 USD a night. Taking fully electric taxis to dine out on cheap and interesting local food. People from all over China who are part of a cohort of 500 million - making possible an internal tourism industry centered on family friendly fun with 5-star quality at affordable prices. Nothing like this existed 20 years ago - and what did exist likely catered to foreign travelers and expats. Even 10 years ago this sort of thing was rare. Now? The government push to an internal consumption economy is paying off in every corner of the country. This isn't the BBC's fake gloom China. This is decades of planning and building resulting in a super-livable reality. If you never visited or the last time you visited was 10+ years ago, you owe it to yourself to check out the new China ❤️🇨🇳
