I see we're just going to continue arguing in circles for some reason when I have never said that DIY isn't better Yes, DIY is better value cause you aren't paying for custom parts, labor, shipping, and support. It always has been Yes, consoles are better value than most PCs, they've always been like that except during the late half of the Xbox 360 and PS3 era Yes, some prebuilts like from ABS can be somewhat cheaper or similar priced but they can often be built terribly or poorly shipped or use overly cheap components Yes, you can upgrade a normal PC No, not everyone is going to DIY build a PC No, you will not build a PC in this form factor size for similar price I really think everyone is making a big deal about nothing. If you want to PC game, don't want to build it yourself, and want a nice small PC that works like a console, then the Steam Machine seems like a solid choice and the price is inline with market pricing

@Drybones5 @ExtremelyPurple @NicolasBT277 @KodakCoyote For PC gamers, a DIY build is better value. Catching certain prebuilts on sale, an even better value. For console gamers, current gen consoles still better value. Otherwise, Steam Machine is for people with money to burn and no clue about PCโ€™s. Canโ€™t even upgrade the GPU later!

Non-Steam games usually isn't a challenge. There's Heroic games Launcher (For Epic, Gog, and Amazon Prime heroicgameslauncher.com) and Lutris that can install from different stores or install specific clients directly and have the games run with Proton Rainbow 6 Siege is on Steam and it's where I run it from, but Ubisoft has blocked it from running on Linux even with Proton even though the anti-cheat it uses is compatible. Same with Battlefield 6, Steam game, but the anti-cheat is a Windows kernel level one that doesn't work on Linux A game not working on Linux proton is usually either: - The anti-cheat is not compatible on Linux - The developers/publisher purposely disallow running it on Linux And they're almost always a competitive multiplayer game

@RainGuardz @NicolasBT277 @KodakCoyote If you want it to be more efficient at load use, yes But the 80+ rating does not tell the build quality which is the most important thing to consider I refer to the SPL PSU test results sheet where someone has done in-depth testing: #gid=931697732" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">docs.google.com/spreadsheets/dโ€ฆ

@Drybones5 @NicolasBT277 @KodakCoyote The thing is the the steam frame in terms of memory is using DDR5 5600MHz RAM while the one listed here is only DDR4 3600. Also for power supplies if you are wanting a PC to last generally you want a PSU that is Gold+

Yes, in that sense The RX 9060 XT is better than I remembered it being, compared to the RX 7600 But it's just barely doing high settings on UE5 and similar games at 1080p. For a TV setup, people are either going to have 1080p 60hz, 4K 60hz, or 4K 120hz And for the latter two, it's going to be upscaled for the TV resolution no matter what or you limit it to 1080p I'm am not arguing against building your own PC, I operate a DIY tiers building guide site. I am only saying that the Steam Machine has a market for the people who will not do that

@Drybones5 @NicolasBT277 @KodakCoyote %35 difference is much more powerful yes. That's difference from 60fps to 81fps. And difference from 39(unplayable) to 60fps. You are going to be upscaling way more/more often with the hardware steam machine has.

Second, do not ever ever recommend a WD Green SSD ever again You don't need 4 fans, the 3 fans for the front will create the ideal positive pressure in the case you need You should only use 3600 mhz memory on Ryzen 2000-5000 series as it is the most ideal memory speed for the Zen DDR4 generation excluding Zen 1

@marv1nfcb @KodakCoyote I am a PC builder. I have built 70 PCs in the last decade for other people for a reason, which is that not everyone wants to build their own PC Not to mention for the form factor: No. you will not do that for the same price

More powerful? Of course /Much/ more powerful? Around 35% improvement in GPU if you DIY in the current market Point is that it is a prebuilt PC that is console-like out of the box and is very small So again, value wise, it's inline with cheap DIY with it's own advantages and cons I build my own PCs, but people paid me to build and support their gaming PCs for a reason Just like all PC gamers, it's down to whether you're willing to DIY build or not

@Drybones5 @KodakCoyote respectfully you can get a much more powerful system for similar cost, the entire selling point here is form factor and console-like capabilities, which Valve has stated will be available for all systems in a future SteamOS update.
