The Maratha Empire rose as the Mughal Empire declined after Aurangzeb’s death, expanding across India and controlling Delhi, establishing themselves as the dominant power in the 18th century. Thread🧵—

A 1785 letter from Govind Rao Purshottam to Nana Phadnis says the Marathas had captured key Mughal regions, and Mahadji Shinde urged securing Shah Alam II to maintain control over rivals like the British and Asaf-ud-Daula.

🧵| You’re so bullsh*it and Dumbass person, that you didn’t even read the snippets I gave properly. The Mughals, Rajputs, and Nizams, after losing battles and witnessing Maratha dominance, themselves accepted that it was better to come under Maratha authority.

@courage_maratha At this point, I am completely convinced that you’re a ganwar who’s incapable of reading simple English. I am not talking about who won or lost more number of battles, I am simply pointing out that paying tribute ≠ accepting vassalage. You’re going in circles by changing topics.

How scared Rajput rulers used to run 100s of miles to the maratha capital of Satara and petitioned relief from Chatrapati Shahu Maharaj in the Satara court, It is perfectly captured at the events at Banswara. When Maratha general Yashwantrao Pawar of dhar laid siege to the Banswara, the local Rawal didn't defend his gates, rather he fled straight towards Satara. Haunted by the sheer destruction of Katasimha Kadamba's earlier campaigns, the Banswara chief realized that no amount of traditional pride could stop the Maratha onslaught. He abandoned his post and made a desperate dash to Satara, not as a king, but as a petitioner seeking a relief. By pleading to Chatrapati Shahu, he essentially handed his submission and requested the Maratha Chatrapati to restrain his own generals. Again, this wasn’t a "strategic retreat" it was a total admission to Maratha supremacy. It shows a reality people hate to admit, by the 18th century, the "Rajput" clans were so broken by Maratha power that their only hope for survival was to become humble tributaries of the Maratha throne.

If you’re asking why I’m so concerned about The Maratha Empire Map, this is the most critical explanation I can give - There are many things involved in it - 1. If @ncert forms a committee on this matter, the first step after the passing of a respected historian like Shri Gajanan Bhaskar Mehendale Sir should be to include a Marathi Historian. Anyone seeking the truth should expect this as a minimum, from either side. 2. The map hasn’t been removed because it is false, it was clearly held back pending further proceedings. Therefore, rajput royals should not spread false information if they are truly concerned about The Truth. 3. Would have accepted questioning from any rajasthani historian, but the direct interference of the royals tells another pov. There are photos of them meeting the Central Education Minister and other such actions etc. 4. Anyone who has tracked this from the start knows the entire movement was backed by their student political wing, rajput royals, people writing letters in blood, trashing the map, etc. 5. I was okay with online Maratha vs rajput debates, but this has moved beyond online, initiated by rajput royals in real life. Meanwhile, our are still waking up, and some still blame rss or bjp for matter concerning Maharashtra, Marathi, and Marathas etc. There is a clear sense that the hate toward rss and bjp is now being directed at us. They are also responsible for the distortion of Our History. 6. Criticism is fine, but undermining isn’t. You can’t compare smaller Maratha pages with limited reach, most don’t even exceed 5k, 6k, or 7k followers, and at best one might reach 15k, with a strategically backed rajput politigram page that has 34k followers. Even the engagement, likes, comments, and shares, shows the difference. Leave this aside, if Maharashtra, Marathi people, and Marathas were truly aware or concerned about this so-called e- caste war, don’t you think our side’s evidence would have reached them quickly? Instead, notice how quickly things turned against us. There are many layers to this etc. 7. This is serious. it’s an attack on MARATHA EXISTENCE. We’ve seen enough proof, and we also have strong evidence to support the map. Those who are connected know what’s happening behind the scenes, who is blocking, who is silent, who is playing games, and who is truly committed to the cause etc. नारायणी ✨🪷✨

@Republic_Odisha Not a single 'history expert' has rejected the Maratha map, which is why you can’t find a single scholar or professional historian protesting against it. It's only illiterates like you making a fuss.

Before CSM, the Marathas did not have their own independent kingdom, so you cannot compare that period with the tribute taken from the entire Nizam state. But even after having their own kingdoms since ancient times, the Rajputs still lived in slavery.

@courage_maratha If paying tribute = accepting vassalage, then by this logic Marathas were vassals of Mughals & Nizam as well. Just like before, this ganwar didn’t even go through the sources I shared XD. Ghati bandars really think they ruled India by doing hafta-vasooli for their Muslim masters.

@courage_maratha Lol, marathas didn't even exist as warriors against almost all of them. Never faced any Arab or Turk or Mongols, even missed half of the Mughals because they were busy serving Bijapur or Ahmednagar. Khud lade nahi aur apne baap k upar mazak bana rahe

Abey low IQ ganwar, theek se padh. I have also shared sources of Marathas paying tribute to the Mughals & Nizams in the 18th century, way after Shivaji — the hereditary slave of Mughals — had sh!tted himself to death. Bandar is now coping by spamming irrelevant snippets which have already been debunked : 👉 x.com/syngh_unleashe… 👉 x.com/syngh_unleashe… 👉 x.com/syngh_unleashe… 👉 x.com/syngh_unleashe…

Dear @ncert, this is nothing more than the usual Marathi rhetoric of equating tribute (tax) collection with political sovereignty. They falsely boast about ruling entire India even though levying tribute is not the same as actually ruling or administering a state. Although I’ve discussed this multiple times in the past, allow me to summarise some of the key points 📌 : 🔸 The tax levied from kingdoms in the form of 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙝 was more or less protection money or military extortion, compelling the local rulers (Mughal governors, Nawabs, Rajputs Rajas, etc) to pay it in order to prevent plundering raids by Marathas, the main victims of which were always innocent civilians. 🔸 This is not some random assumption but an academically attested view. To quote the words of reputed historians like Jadunath Sarkar : “ 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙖 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙗𝙪𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙛𝙛 𝙧𝙤𝙗𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙖 𝙨𝙥𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙡𝙪𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙡𝙚𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙖 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠 𝙤𝙛 𝙫𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙜𝙚. ” 🔸 There are many instances throughout Maratha history when their own chiefs, acting independently of any central authority (neither 𝙋𝙚𝙨𝙝𝙬𝙖 nor 𝘾𝙝𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙞), were compelled to pay tribute to the Mughal Emperor, the Nizam of Hyderabad & even the East India Company. So Marathas were ruled by Mughals, Nizam & British too? 🔸 Speaking of central authority, who exactly was the Emperor of this so-called ‘Maratha Empire’ ? Was it the Brahmin Peshwa of Poona or the titular Maratha Chhatrapati of Satara? Even the chiefs working under them — Holkar, Sindhia, Gaekwad, Panwar, Bhonsle — fought against each other like bitter enemies throughout their history. 🔸 Even the 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙝 demanded from Rajputana during the regency of Mahadji Sindhia (𝙑𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙡-𝙞-𝙈𝙪𝙩𝙡𝙖𝙦 of Mughal Empire) was legitimised in the name of the Mughal Emperor only. Rajput states had been holding back tribute to the Mughal government for years, while Marathas came demanding for it on behalf of their masters. 🔸 How many North Indian rulers in general (or Rajput Rajas in particular) formally attended any Maratha 𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙗𝙖𝙖𝙧 (court) even once, let alone on a frequent or regular basis like subjects are ought to? Did any of them ever render military service under Marathas or assigned an official rank in the Maratha bureaucracy (assuming it was one)? 🔸 No, not at all! It was the exact other way around with Maratha leaders often visiting the Mughal court (or sending their direct representatives) to appeal for 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙖𝙗𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙞 or 𝙎𝙪𝙗𝙚𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙞, addressing themselves as loyal slaves of the Mughal Emperor in their royal seals & even going as far as minting coins in his name. 🔸 Marathas did not even care if any other power attacked & looted their so-called vassals as long as they were getting their own share of ‘𝙝𝙖𝙛𝙩𝙖-𝙫𝙖𝙨𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙞’. If we are to go by their logic, then underworld criminals & political goons — like Dawood Ibrahim or The Thackerays — are also ruling sovereigns of Maharashtra.
