Averland Greatsword. This is actually sergeant Franz Vogel from Averheim, main protagonist of the "Forge of War" comic book. Written by Dan Abnett, it's a very solid piece of Warhammer fiction.
He also appeared in the "Condemned by Fire" comic, also written by Dan.

@FifteethChance @Wentos1 Most other eras/adaptations where he is portrayed as near godlike. A lot of people bitched about Superman getting his ass kicked all the time in the recent movie. For better or worse, (and I think better) that's a legacy of Byrne.

Two things can be true:
1. Byrne's reboot was very popular back in the day.
2. It is as distant from the modern character as anything from the 60s, and there is a reason no one talks about anything from it besides the origin.

The thing you have to understand about Byrne's Superman is that it was massively popular in a way the book hadn't been before, and that's because "Ultra-patriotic drywall dust about how Republican Midwestern values are an objective moral truth" is what sold well at that time.
