Mutual history of Poland and Ukraine is bloody and gruesome.
Polish attacks on Ukraine's sovereignty will backfire on Poland not just from the Ukrainian perspective but from the entire civilized world.
Poland must stop whitewashing their own brutal history and playing the victim.

🧵 HYPOCRISY: Nawrocki celebrates & defends the Holy Cross Mountains Brigade (NSZ), WW2 Nazi collaborators. This is the reality when a nation is occupied from both sides by Germans and Russians and the resistance refuses to give up. The same messy history exists in Ukraine, and it's OK. Poland and Ukraine suffered greatly during WW2, millions slaughtered by both the Germans and the Russians. The two nations have very similar painful histories in this regard, and the brave people who fought on for their country opportunistically leveraged one evil against the other, as both evils occupied their land and slaughtered their people. Poland and Ukraine both survived WW2. Many lives were saved thanks to these brave partisans - including the Polish NSZ and the Ukrainian UPA. Poland is a thriving successful nation today, and Ukraine unfortunately has to fight and bleed, again, to repel the Russian invaders, again. Whenever you see Poles ignorant of their own history attacking Ukraine's WW2 history, you can just cite this post. Between 8 and 10 million Ukrainians are estimated to have been killed by both the Germans and the Russians during WW2.

Well, now everything has fallen into place. President Nawrocki has stated that Volhynia is historically Polish land. In fact, the Polish–Ukrainian conflict of 1943–44 was largely rooted in the policies pursued by the Polish government during the 1930s and by the government-in-exile in London until 1945.
A region that had been Ukrainian for centuries, where not a single Pole lived before the Union of Lublin in 1569, is now being described as a historically Polish region.
When Putin makes historically inaccurate claims, one might dismiss them by saying he was never a strong student of history. But here we have a graduate of a history faculty, reportedly with excellent academic credentials, making such statements.
One would like to see a normalization of Polish–Ukrainian relations. Unfortunately, that goal still seems a long way off.
