In 1842 Abraham Lincoln was involved in a duel with Illinois banker James Shields.
Lincoln could have avoided it by simply retracting his criticism of Shields banking practices.
But he didn’t.
Lincoln accepted the challenge. He chose broad swords as the weapon and a duel to the death was set to take place on a Mississippi River sand bar.
The two men came to honorable terms on the day of the duel.
No stranger to such contests, Lincoln would certainly not object to a UFC fight at his memorial. If Republican Abe Lincoln was still with us, he’d be sitting next to Trump on the front row.
