Today's ED operations are crumbling. LOS for admitted pts rose 32% from 2019 to 2022. Pts leaving without treatment rose 86% (2.9% to 5.4%). Pts have longer waits, are more likely to leave, and board for long periods after admission. A major cause for this is nursing shortages.

@SF_Red Having cared for a number of high profile VIPs in my former position in DC I agree. Most of the time these people were not asking for special treatment, but their entourage or family members did. I was proud to care for congressmen in rooms next to those without homes

@londyloo If you liked dating in residency, you’ll love dating in fellowship! For real though, I met my wife during GI fellowship when I had done Q2 call for a year. While I did fall asleep during our first date, it is possible to find the one!

@JarmanAF That is definitely NOT right. Palliative consult to look at options? My mom went straight from inpatient to home hospice. So thankful for our home hospice team.

I have an ill, elderly family member who asked about transition to hospice while inpatient and was told that it wouldn’t be covered unless she went to the snf for a few days to fail first and I just…. WHAT 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯. Why is our system so horrible?!!! #hospice #palliativecare

Simulated disaster exercises are just one way we keep our department prepared to best serve our community in times of need. Our faculty, residents, nurses, technicians and surgical colleagues displayed amazing teamwork when put through the test!
UC Davis Health@UCDavisHealth

More than 100 staff members and emergency responders from the community took part in a simulated plane crash exercise. This exercise tested @UCDavisEM's emergency management plans, trained staff, and helped improve the medical center's ability to deal with disasters.

Our ED has implemented a new program to help our providers prescribe PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) to patients that are at high risk of acquiring HIV. 🧵 below on details of how we are removing barriers to care for these patients who are often otherwise marginalized:

@sydneyesbrown @thesavvymd Assuming people have parents to help is ridiculously privileged. in my case my mother had Parkinson’s. Dad became her caregiver so couldn’t help. I was thankful they helped so much with my oldest. I’m glad my mom got to meet my youngest too but she died when youngest was 3
