Connecticut appears to be on the verge of passing a bill that forces cities to permit homeless people to panhandle and put up tents (in the form of "protection from the elements") in public spaces and I have a lot of questions, perhaps first and foremost, "who wants this"

smart tax. A valid concern about taxing the rich at a state or municipal level is that they'll move. But that's irrelevant if you tax people who already don't live in NYC. You even see people like Jason Calacanis trying to pull the "they'll flee NYC" line. It doesn't work here!

Ken Griffin employs thousands of people in NYC and is planning to build the tallest office tower on Park Ave., investing billions more and creating thousands more jobs. (For that reason, he’s also here in NYC a lot, @NYCMayor) Meantime Miami is welcoming him and his firm, with the massive jobs, investment and tax revenue he’s bringing. Making him feel unwelcome and demonizing him seems risky. Ken left Chicago and moved Citadel hq to Miami a few years ago because of bad policy. (He also sold his penthouse there)

People who are angry at this post all make the same mistake “You will drive out the affluent folks” “You are adding taxes to private property” “You will encourage billionaires to move” These are extremely valid claims. I’m confused. Don’t they always pay property taxes? So this is a two tier property tax system as it’s illegal to impose income taxes on out of state residents. Also what about non-residents who have businesses here? One more incentive for them to move to a friendlier state. x.com/GovKathyHochul…

Trump's approval only down around 1.5% since before the Iran war. I'm honestly a bit surprised. But this does match what I'm hearing anecdotally, where even democrats quietly support an *attempt at Iranian regime change*. At least for people I ask, they seemed to care just as much about a possible regime change as they did a nuclear threat. Hope for the regime change is very low now, though. People are very opposed to a long term conflict, though. That's my take. The USA should roll the dice way more often on these evil regimes, even in a very open way like this. And if it doesn't work, no problem, just don't stay wrong, just leave. I don't see why we shouldn't try this every 5 years, even. Eventually you hit the jackpot...

If NYC has been good to you, you can do good for NYC. Thanks @ZohranKMamdani for taxing the ultra wealthy to pay for childcare, free buses, and housing for millions of New Yorkers. What a novelty to deliver on a campaign promise.
