As I noted yesterday, the “unexpected” nature of reading struggles is definitive in who is diagnosed with dyslexia. We should sit w/the tension of who we *expect* to struggle & how often that struggle is then pathologized & punished.

Happy Dyslexia Awareness Month! The more we all learn about Dyslexia, the fewer barriers there are to diagnosis, understanding, and intervention. #sayDyslexia

I looped to the next grade level with my special education students, and I recommend it. 🍎I already have relationships with my students and their families. 🍎I knew right where we left off last year, so we can continue on through the same curriculum.

Sometimes… kids are just trying to make it through their day. Teachers need to understand this. And sometimes… teachers are just trying to make it through their day. Administrators need to understand this.

Outstanding educators come from all different backgrounds & there’s evidence that exposure to educators who share students’ diverse backgrounds & experiences can have powerful effects.

I teach upper elementary and need to do some whole group lessons on multisyllabic words using the 6 vowel types. Any ideas or recommendations? We don’t have a curriculum for this. I’m looking at WV phonics but not sure what I think yet. #sor #scienceofreading

As humans, we are really good at finding differences. We are not so good at naming ways we are the same.
