I wasn’t able to see the hoarding/billboard in Times Square, New York, as one of @amazonmusicin’s Best Podcasts of the Year, personally. But if this were a scene from a film, it would feel like something out of Bergman’s Wild Strawberries — only reversed. Me, as a college student in New York, looking up at myself on a billboard many years later. When I was a student at NYU, doing evening courses in filmmaking, I had a few quiet wishes. One day, a film I made would screen at Lincoln Center. That happened — with Let’s Talk and Everlasting Light, the documentary I made on Mr. Bachchan. I also wished that I would be mentioned in The New York Times. Dhamaka was mentioned as part of “Five Action Movies to Watch.” Manhattan is where I go for my art, theatre, and culture fix. Once, I was rushing from a film at Lincoln Center to a play downtown and asked the taxi driver to hurry. He asked me what I did. I said, “I’m a filmmaker, and I’m rushing from a movie to a play.” In typical New York fashion, he said, “You should work less hard!” Yes, filmmaking is hard. But along the way, there are many people who help make your wishes come true. Here’s to my entire team — especially Mayank Sen and Mahalxmi Singh at @moes_art , and @AmazonMusicIN . To my full family, to all my friends, and all you followers who made it happen. And, as always, to @amita_madhvani — the force behind it all. Now, for my next wish…
