@KristaDiamond I have never once been reimbursed for expenses. I also owned a company w thousands of 1099 contractors around the world & the moment you do, they become employees per IRS 20-pt checklist. As I said, genuine tax concerns around doing this.

Since we’re talking about the current state of writing rates: a highly regarded publication recently offered me $1,600 to write 6,000 words about an event that would have cost me at least $500 to attend and when I asked if they’d pay expenses they said I should apply for grants

Poverty level is just means testing guardrails that minimize safety net payouts. I don’t think I’m the one uninformed here. But ok 👍

@neet_sol Medieval peasants (which was 90% of the population) lived in poverty, compared to America's ~10%, and what we consider poverty today is nowhere near what was considered normal for a peasant.
