Per capire cosa è Hezbollah per il Libano, bisogna ricordare qualche antefatto. Nel 1978 Israele aveva tentato una prima invasione del Libano, con l’operazione "Litani". Nel 1982, con l’Operazione “Pace in Galilea”, Israele ha invaso una seconda volta il Libano. Hezbollah nacque come coordinamento di milizie sciite per contrastare l’invasione israeliana. E ci riuscirono così bene che nel 1985 Israele si ritirò dal Libano meridionale. Nel 2006 Israele tentò di nuovo un’invasione del Libano meridionale, ma dopo 34 giorni fu respinto dalle forze di Hezbollah. Hezbollah è l’unica organizzazione armata libanese che abbia mostrato la capacità e la volontà di difendere il proprio paese dagli attacchi israeliani. La semplice verità è che l’esercito libanese non ha mai fatto niente di significativo per difendere il Libano dalle aggressioni israeliane. L’esercito libanese fa essenzialmente attività di polizia al proprio interno. Senza Hezbollah il Libano sarebbe da tempo un altro “territorio occupato”. Andrea Zhok
