@SeatsNotVotes

We don’t yet have a proportional system. That means it’s vote concentration that matters NOT random mass appeal. Parties that can turn votes into seats will win

@K4rmaRules @TheGreenParty @ZackPolanski That shows such naivety about the creative sector. Much of it is not profitable due to its nature and has to be supported. If we didn’t works our arses off some things - drama, comedy, arts wouldn’t happen at all & we’d be driven totally by US narratives. Is that what you want ?

"I think we should be taxing wealth fairly." @ZackPolanski lays out the Green Party's plans to support small businesses and young people with a £15 minimum wage on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg.

@DeborahMeaden I run a creative firm in Mcr. I already pay £15 p/hour. Due to cash flow & the precariousness of our industry (ie no guaranteed income monthly) I end up either working for nothing myself or for less than min wage just to keep my staff in decent wages. What green answer to that ?

If you can't afford to pay your workers enough to live, you don't deserve to stay in business. Don't know what's so hard to understand.
Peter McCormack 🏴‍☠️🇬🇧🇮🇪@PeterMcCormack

A minimum wage of £15 would end my coffee shop, it would have to close, as would many other businesses. I’ll explain for the economically illiterate. Staff costs are currently half our costs, a £15 minimum wage is actually more than £15 an hour for the company, because you have to add: - 12.07% holiday - Sick pay - Maternity pay if and when required - National insurance - Pension contributions These costs would mean the shop loses money because remember, energy costs are up, rates are up, regulations are up. Now you can pass these costs onto the consumer - that would mean charging a lot more for coffee, people won’t pay it. The likes of Starbucks and Costa can, because they have economies of scale. The independent doesn’t. Now the little socialist will say well this is your fault, if you can’t run a business that can afford to pay its staff properly, but the little socialist has never run a business and does not understand the dynamics. Now I could pay some staff off and fill those hours myself or reduce us to one staff member during certain periods - but this proves the point that a minimum wage costs jobs. There was a time when these jobs were done by kids, perhaps on the weekend, paid a lower wage, no holiday and no silly employment rights. Perhaps they were even paid cash. The dynamic worked and small businesses like this could operate. It was also a great first job. Sadly now it isn’t worth employing entitlement youngsters at this level of pay. So alas, I don’t need the stress, the business would close, a number of jobs would be lost. Economics is about understanding these dynamics, no vibes. The cost of living is not solved through passing on inflation to the business, it is solved by ending high inflation and creating prosperity. This is what socialists don’t understand, they can’t create prosperity, they can only destroy it.

The smirking responses from the left saying “well you’re too poor to run a business so it should shut down” are a microcosm of the mess this country is in. Tall poppy syndrome run amok.

Can anybody in the Green Party see the problem with adding at least 18% to the minimum cost of employing an adult and at least 38% to the minimum cost of employing an 18 to 20-year-old? In just one year? Anybody?? 🤔 ft.com/content/431a16…

@BethRigby You’ve already written the narrative. U decided what it would be months ago. You’ve been building up to deliver a simplistic left v right binary for ages with the odd scalp along the way. We are forever manipulated by the media. Your disgraceful airbrushing of @libdems a disgrace

Reform in 2025 dominated in local elections, winning 680 out of 1641 seats mostly at expense of Conservatives. Will they do it again this year with Lab? 1600+ impressive 2000 great results. Look too for Greens, can they push past 500 seats gains?

🚨LOCAL ELECTIONS: Here’s what we will be looking at when the results come in to help gauge state of the parties Analysis by Professors Thrasher & Rallings’ suggests Labour could lose up to 2000 of the c2500 seats its’ defending & Tories up to 1000 in most extreme scenario 🧵

@Heccles94 I thought he was a good guy and respectful of a more plural politics. But he’s leading the greens with too much ideological zealotry for me. Feeding off divisions. We need mature politics. In parl his MPs work well with the LibDems, snp, plaid etc but Zack seems to be very tribal

@McrGreenParty I run a creative business in the north west. I already pay £15. I struggle to cover that most months & often have to not pay myself in order to pay my staff because cash flow in a small creative firm with no guarantee of income, Is so precarious. What’s your answer to that?

@RabbidTheNabb1t @ZackPolanski That is nonsense. Some do work with the greens in parliament. See daily LibDem/green/snp/plaid cooperation plus some Labour backbenchers. Ideological zealotry and lack of respect for plurality is what will destroy the greens ultimately. They need to grow up
