@steeder10 i think they def could’ve and should’ve switched the late screen since it’s the 4 and 5 man and absolutely cannot give up a 3 there

Arguably the best coaching performance of the Dan Hurley era in the second half of that one. Every decision and adjustment was spot on, as it needs to be down 19 against the overall #1. - they countered the Duke off ball switches with cross screen actions for Reed, chipping away at the lead + getting into bonus early in the second. - the the double curl in a ‘need a 3’ spot worked perfectly; Duke couldn’t switch it out with Reed being the screener. - most importantly, NOT automatically fouling with 10 seconds left, creating the TO that led to the game winning shot. END OF GAME CLINIC by the UConn staff.

@shre98 yep. th first title team was more sanogo, hawkins, jackson. that team might’ve been even better than the 24 team sans the weird stretch in BE play

@SolvingBracket I know lol, but limited space to type that — Clingan was for two seasons, but their title run started the season before ofc.

Dan had to adapt and change his offensive system after they lost to New Mexico State. Yes, getting two nba players (Castle and Clingan) helped the next year, but they switched to a four-out, one-in that really helped on offense. Don’t think Bill hasn’t tried to get shooters..
Jayhawk Apothecary@JayhawkApoth

Dan Hurley understands today’s game of basketball better than any other coach: You start with shooters. You can teach defensive schemes, but you can’t teach shooting. Bill Self is the exact opposite. And the results speak for themselves. What a win by UConn.

@uncledanny24 @2ndChancePoints 😂 fair. but it always annoyed me how ant wanted to take those “do him” shots from as far away as possible while still being worth 2. also sucks that maybe his best performance ever was against cal barely into year 2

When I see NBA level, 1:1 shot creation (off the bounce with no screen), my first thought is ALWAYS, “that’s only impressive if the opposing coach still has a job.”
Adam Albright@adamthealbright

@uncledanny24 Against a K state so bad they fired their coach mid season.

@shre98 Mullins is an insane shooter but using this years UCONN team (and that game) as an argument for more shooting is… interesting

@uncledanny24 I think that move is pretty pedestrian, yeah, and it’s a horrifically inefficient shot lol. And the slow footed dolt who waves at the first crossover and then has zero quickness to contest the shot helps make it look great

You literally know less about coaching basketball than your average 4th grade coach. Guys are WIDE OPEN down the court. All Boozer has to do is throw the ball 20 feet in the air and the game is over. But the fact you actually think players are following “instruction” or a “coaching decision” in this situation shows how completely clueless you are as to how the game of basketball actually works.
Kevin O'Connor@KevinOConnor

I'm blown away that Scheyer was instructing his team to advance the ball. Terrible situational basketball. Horrific coaching decision.

Not enough talk about how HUGE this 3 was, too. What a set. Fake Pistol, decoy wide pin/tight curl, run the step-up guy off the real middle pin? Hurley has some filthy shit.

@ScoutWithBryan I don’t have the verbiage like you do, but the subtlety of knowing the defender was gonna go under the pick so drifting opposite had the effect of setting a 2nd screen on that defender. That’s experience and game feel
