@AB__1986 @KieranMaguire Why is it anti-competitive? The big clubs earn more than you so should be allowed to spend more. Would it be a good thing if you were allowed to lose 300m a year with the tab picked up by an oil rich state? Why is that a good thing?

🚨💣 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆: Sandro Tonali is now at the very TOP of Manchester United’s midfield targets for this summer! 😳 #MUFC In the coming weeks the feasibility of the deal will become much clearer. Manchester City remain very attentive to his situation — the Italian is valued at around €100m. —@MatteMoretto

Gutsy for large parts from Sarries tonight, reacted really well from going 14-0 down but a huge rebuild is needed, standards are slipping & this isn’t the ending Mark McCall deserves. So many of these Sarries lads need to pull their finger out for him now before this just falls away into absolutely nothing.

FULL-TIME! Saracens 17-21 Saints. That is absolutely superb from Saints. Injuries galore, a Saracens comeback from 14-0 down to lead 17-14, but they somehow found a way. Litchfield set up McParland in true Saints style for the winner. What a win, what a team, what a club.

Since @Ofcom seems to have given up, we asked 20 experienced journalist from a wide range of backgrounds to watch multiple hours of @GBNEWS . Their conclusion: the supposedly regulated channel has, in effect, become Reform TV. How did it happen? thenewworld.co.uk/alan-rusbridge…

Good result for Chelsea: club fined only £10m and given a suspended transfer ban after Premier League found 36 separate undisclosed payments totalling £47.5m made “to 12 persons or entities on behalf of the club”. Lenient sanctions. No sporting sanctions. Yet these are serious offences, as the sanction agreement between the PL and Chelsea makes clear, stating “they were not only obvious and deliberate breaches of the rules but also because they involved deception and concealment in relation to financial matters”. Yet no points deductions. Just a manageable (if record) fine and a “suspended one-year first-team player transfer ban (suspended for two years)”. Surely they gained a sporting advantage by recruiting such players? So surely a sporting sanction should be in order? And where's the consistency? In 2008, Luton Town received a 10-point deduction for irregularities in dealing with agents (nb from FA). There still could be some further sanctions by the FA following its "ongoing investigation". PL points to mitigating factors: current owners Clearlake/Todd Boehly in May 2022 voluntarily self-reported potential historical breaches from the Roman Abramovich era. Club co-operated extensively and helped provide (with others) 10,000 documents for PL investigation. PL established “that between 2011 and 2018, undisclosed payments by third parties associated with the club were made to players, unregistered agents and other third parties”. Payments related to the purchases of players including Eden Hazard, Willian, Samuel Eto’o, David Luiz, Andre Schurrle and Nemanja Matic - there is no suggestion any were aware of the illicit payments. The detailed work of the investigators – and level of Clearlake’s co-operation – is impressive. The sanctions less so. It is a legitimate debate: should a club be punished for offences under a previous owner? Yes, most fans of other clubs would scream. It's a deterrent. And the value of those players' contribution and subsequent sales arguably still benefits the club. PL also investigated “potential breaches of the Premier League’s Youth Development Rules, committed by a former senior employee, relating to the club’s registration of Academy players between 2019 and 2022”. Again, self-reported by the club, this time in 2025. Chelsea punished with £750,000 fine and immediate nine-month ban from registering academy players from PL and EFL clubs. #CFC

The dust has settled at Stamford Bridge, and while the 1-0 win shows the world that this Newcastle United squad has more heart in its little finger than the 'billion-pound bottle jobs' combined, we need to talk about the absolute circus act refereeing the game and the clown in the opposition dugout. Once again, we find ourselves dissecting a performance from the officials that didn't just border on incompetent—it felt like a scripted episode of "Look After the Big Six." Let’s start with the laughable attempt by Cole Palmer to buy a penalty. It was a staggering display of desperation from a player who spent more time looking for the turf than he did for the back of the net. The fact that he was even entertaining the idea of a spot-kick after treading on Nick Woltemade’s foot is a joke. It’s the kind of modern 'gamesmanship' or cheating as I call it, that’s rotting the sport, yet we see it week in and week out. If that’s a penalty in today’s game, then the rules have officially left the building. But the real kicker—the one that really boils the blood—is the Malick Thiaw incident. How on earth Reece James is allowed to literally wrestle a man to the floor in the penalty area and walk away without a care in the world is beyond me. Thiaw was completely taken out of the play, hauled down like he was in the middle of a rugby scrum, and yet Paul Tierney and the VAR crew apparently decided that 'wrestling' is now a legal defensive maneuver as long as you're wearing a blue shirt. We’ve seen these given against us for far less, and the lack of consistency is becoming a tired, pathetic narrative that we are forced to swallow. Then we get to the post-match comments from the Chelsea camp. To hear their manager—who is quite clearly feeling the heat of a failing project—try to justify these calls or act like his side were hard done by is absolutely laughable. It reeks of a man who is under immense pressure and is desperately grasping at straws to distract from the fact that his team got outworked, outplayed, and outclassed by a more disciplined Newcastle side. It’s weak, it’s transparent, and it’s the hallmark of a manager who knows the clock is ticking. We aren't asking for favours; we’re just asking for a level playing field. But as long as the 'cartel' clubs get these soft decisions while our players get mauled in the box without a whistle, the sense of injustice will only grow. We won despite the officials, but we shouldn't have to play against twelve men every single week! Rosenior is bang out of order here: "If Paul had focused more on his job, which was to make the right decision, we have a penalty today. I don't think anybody in this room can say that Woltemade doesn't kick Palmer down in the box" The bloke is cringey as, and is living on borrowed time already! To me it's just deflection and excuse making - the better team won at Stamford Bridge! #NUFC #NUFCNews #Newcastle #EPL #Chelsea

@Pooliemags1Ttv I'm not going to deny there's widespread corruption and an agenda to keep the Sky 6 in place but Villa have spent big money, big wages and are bottling a huge advantage in the table. We could have bought 6 players with what we paid for YS and AE. I don't think it's PSR this time.
