So many Italians moved from Kentucky + West Virginia to Marseilles (Lasalle County) looking for mining work that at one point it was called Martucky. Thats why there’s a big fried chicken culture down there and it’s commonly served with “Ravs” which is local slang for tortellini.

Most people don't think of Illinois as a major coal state. But Southern Illinois has massive coal deposits and a long history w coal. The toxic legacy of coal mining is visible. This is the Will Scarlet coal mine site, sometimes also known as "Demon Waters," or "The Red Sea."

Me & an ADA had to approach the bench once to try and calmly explain, like a couple of elementary school teachers, that we really did need to know his ruling on my motion to supress BEFORE we started picking the jury...

Lawyers haaate succession. Recently saw a very senior big wig (🌧️) leave for a lesser firm. Mine wanted him to retire at 65, the other didn’t. Cue in the PE “come hither” pitch.
You don’t have to ‘surrender’ your book.
You also don’t have to lateral.
You can just sell it.
